I knew something was wrong when Jessica was spotted leaving her apartment without the servant I had given her.
Actually, that isn’t true.
I knew something was wrong when I texted Jessica to confirm that she had gone someplace, and she didn’t respond.
I headed for Jessica’s apartment immediately and let myself in. What I found very quickly was the pathetic excuse of a servant that was Linc fast asleep on the couch. I glared down at the woman; this was supposed to be her chance to earn redemption and prove her devotion to our goddess. And she had chosen to waste it.
I reached out and smacked Linc’s shoulder. “WAKE UP!” I shouted in her face.
Linc sat bolt upright, looking around frantically as if she somehow didn’t understand what was happening. “Wha --?”
“Where is she?” I cut her off.
Linc turned to face me and nearly jumped as if she had only just noticed I was there. “My lord,” she said, quickly bowing her head.
