home

I woke up late the next morning, which was probably a good thing. It was Saturday, so I didn't have to get up for anything. After yesterday, I thought I would be taken right back to London. I was wrong.

"Are you sure you want to go back?"

I nodded. "Of course I am. All my friends are there. They'll be expecting me back."

Racheal was talking to me from across the table at lunch time. "What if you just stay until the end of the week, then if you really don't like it, I'll take you back to London."

"I don't have to not like it here to prefer it there."

I could tell this was her trying to persuade me to do something. It was working.

"Oh, Cynthia, you must stay here you never know, you might decide you prefer it better than London." she wasn't going to give up until I said yes.

I huffed. "Just till the end of the week." I said, as sternly as a little kid could to an adult.

"The end of next week."

I looked up at the ceiling until something jingled at my feet and made me jump but it was just the house cat.

Nothing much happened after that. It was certainly a lot less fun than staying in London with my friends. And I've got good news and bad news about that. The good news is I don't have to wait the whole week to see them again. The bad news is, that's because they showed up on the doorstep.

Racheal opened the door and immediately, Jay's first words were "where is she?"

She paused for a moment then shouted for me, even though I was listening from the next room. "Cynthie, you've got visitors."

"What are you doing here?" I asked, after coming to the door.

Jay shuffled around a bit before answering. "Well, we kinda figured that lady wasn't going to bring you back straight away but it would take this long…"

"Did you think she was going to keep me here and not take me back to London?"

He nodded. "We kinda started to assume that, yes."

"How did you find me?"

"You're scent." Sam said, excitedly. " Jay tracked you with his sense of smell, following your scent."

"Well, we didn't know exactly which house you were in, so we just knocked on every door until we found someone who did. So now you can come back to London with us."

I started to laugh. "I'm afraid it might all have been a waste. Racheal was going to take me back tomorrow. Maybe the day after."

Jay was looking slightly behind me. I turned to see Steev standing at the foot of the stairs, watching us.

"You mean like how she said she was going to take her back after you told her what she wanted."

"She said what?!" Steev shouted, looking very confused.

"You weren't even in on it. It was all a lie." he looked at me again. "They were never ganna bring you back."

"Well, they did tell me about my family."

"Who are you?" Steev asked, rather out of the blue.

He was looking intently at Jay when he said it.

"Me? I'm no one, according to you."

"Oh I don't think so." Steeve said, slowly shaking his head and pointing towards Jay. "That mark."

Jay rubbed his forehead. "It's just a birthmark."

And Steev actually laughed. It was a small sigh of a laugh but still more than I'd ever seen.

"What? Have you never seen a birthmark before?"

"I have seen that birthmark before. It runs in my family." he rolled up his sleeve to reveal the same mark on his arm.

We stared in disbelief as Steev and Jay came towards each other. How could he be related to Jay, he never looked a thing like us.

Tiana was watching from the other room as well now.

Jat reached out to touch the mark on Steevs arm. When he did, I heard him sigh. Steev then raised his hand to the side of Jay's head.

"My son."

Though his voice was steady, his lips were trembling and tears were coming to his eyes.

"Father." Jay breathed.

They were both crying at this point.

Steev arms went completely around Jay's body, embracing him and holding him close.

With a jolt, I remembered Steev had other children, all of them much older than us. The thought made me giggle when I realised how Jay might react to that news. At the sound, Steev opened his eyes. Pulling away to hold Jay by the shoulders he said, "You must stay with us, all of you. We'll find places we can all live close by."

Jay sniffed. I think I'd like that very much."

"Wait a minute, I'm confused." Naober piped up. "You're telling us you were one of us? That you were from our planet?"

"I was its king."

"What?!"

He chuckled. "I'll explain it all in due time."

Tiana was looking at them now. She quickly turned to look at me, then ran up to me and hugged me. "I missed you." She whispered in my ear.

"You too." I whispered back.

"Please don't go away again. I want you here with me."

We looked back at Steev and Jay.

"I'd love to stay but it's not just about me."
