More Harm than Good

Once Niels saw Princess Runa in a different light, his attitude toward her also changed considerably. Now Niels understood that the step siblings were victims of their circumstances.

He silently cursed King Alois' decisions, which ultimately led to the tragedy his children suffered. Although Niels also understood that the highest authority of a king also came with sacrifices.

For once, his second marriage to Queen Charlotte might have been something he did against his will. This was evident considering how adamant King Alois was in searching for his former wife, who had left the palace of her own free will.

The ministers dissuaded him from bringing Queen Sofie back to the palace, advising him instead to accept Queen Charlotte as the new lady of the kingdom.

Even though no one said it aloud, Niels knew that the ministers were relieved that Queen Sofie had disappeared.
