In Exchange for What?

"What is his sister's name?"

"Leni."

"Can you find her and bring her here by today? No matter what, we need to have something to offer–something he can't resist."

After getting the approval look from Fabian, Laurens nodded. "Right away, Your Highness."

The valet departed to fulfill the most important mission, while Fabian remained. Henrie asked another question, "Do you know the reason he joined The Black Rose Society?"

"He claimed that he is a nationalist. He wanted to do good in this world. But my knights told me that he might choose this path because of his life. His parents died of illness, although it can easily be cured if one has the money to pay the doctor. His siblings also suffered the same fate."

Fabian further said that Giles' family used to have enough to feed everyone, but a merchant took advantage of their illiteracy, binding them into a life-long contract. The contract prohibited the whole family from working elsewhere.
