Marriage with No Benefits

"To think that she went this far. I had expected her to marry you to someone else, but I didn't know it would be this quick," Sir Karl said.

Elisa understood why Sir Karl found this news surprising.

It was more common for young ladies to take their time choosing a suitor after their debutante ball. The debutante ball served as a platform for them to show themselves, almost like a product.

Gentlemen who were interested in her or her family background would ask for her hand, and it was her and her family's discretion to determine how long they would spend to select one person.

Rushing into marriage had always been looked upon negatively unless the young lady came from a lesser-known family. In this case, it was considered normal because there wouldn't be a lot of suitors in the first place. Moreover, a lady whose family had little to offer couldn't ask for too much from a man.
