The Dream 2

Animalistic growls accompanied the  intensifying glows from the cracks.

The growls kept getting louder until a claw protruded through the cracks.

"Run Adrian, run!" James yelled as he grabbed Adrian by the wrist before running in the opposite direction.

*Boom!!!*

The giant rock bursted into pieces revealing hordes of humanoid, bear sized, extraterrestrial bats.

Their lower canines protruded from their mouth, reaching a length of four inches, they had claws the length of a dagger which was capable of tearing through steel. Their eyes contained a red fiery glow and their ten feet long wings looked like capes.

*Screeechh!!*

One of the monsters roared, as it saw Adrian and James running in the opposite direction. It's call, caused the other bats to turn their heads in that direction.

*Screeechh!!*

The roared unanimously, increasing the ear piercing sound by several folds. They then flew up into the sky one by one until their bodies blocked the red sunlight shinning on the wasteland. For a moment, night descended on the plane, as they flew in a circular manner.

  *Screeechh!!!*

One of the bats, slightly bigger than rest roared once more, causing the horde to chase after Adrian and James.

"Move faster Adrian!!" James yelled at Adrian who was petrified by the incoming horde of monsters.

James words pulled him out of his trance as he increased his speed, running as fast as his legs could carry him.

The distance between the horde and both men kept reducing as the bats closed in on them by the minute.

James knew it was barely a matter of time before the horde will catch up to them.

"Run Boy, run!" James yelled once more.

"Just keep running am behind you." James said to Adrian as he slowed down his speed enough for Adrian to take the lead. There were no visible hiding places, no trees, no rocks, no caves, it's was just a vast flat wasteland.

"I feel a hole twenty meters away!" James yelled, as he used his Earth ability to feel the terrain.

While running, he tapped his foot on the ground in rhythmical patterns, causing small vibrations to spread out from his location in a circular manner.

His method employed the concept of echolaction. After travelling to a certain extent, the waves would return back to him.The vibration patterns would  inform him on the size and shape of the objects around, the holes in the ground, and the texture of the soil.

*Screechhh!!*

The roars from the horde of monsters sounded louder than ever showing how close they were. They needed a distraction, something to slow down the horde of bats.

With no other choice, James abruptly halted his movement.

His feet glide a few  centimeters before he completed stopped. He then picked up a handful of pebbles before he turned to face the relentless incoming horde.

Adrian on the otherhand failed to realise that James had stopped. His desire to live made him unaware of his surroundings. He was focused on surviving at all cost.

As the horde of humanoid bats approached, James threw the pebbles at them with all his might catching their attention.

The monsters grew extremely angry, causing them to abandon pursuing  Adrian.

Immediately James had gotten their attention, he ran as fast as his legs could carry him, leading them away from Adrian.

While running, he relentlessly sent out vibrations looking for a place he could hide but the vibrations returned with no hope.

"We are here!" Adrian yelled as he got to the edge of the hole. He turned around expecting a reply from James but was stunned to see him running away from the hole with the monsters trailing him.

"No, no, no!" Adrian muttered as he ran towards James, turning his back on the big dark hole before him.

Before he got get away from the hole, shadow like hands extended from the hole wraping their arms around him.

Adrian immediately recognized these shadow like hands. They were the same ones that pulled Natasha into the asteroid's shadow.

With all the strength he could muster, he tried to get away but the number of hands kept increasing as he struggled. They held him in place making him unable to move an inch.
