Chapter 13

Elliot smiles at me and holds out his hand to the woman in front of us. "Evie, this is Bunny. The most important person in my life." Bunny scoffs and rolls her eyes. "Elliot, please. Your wife should be the most important person in your life. Or is there trouble in paradise already?" She responds. I obviously look taken aback, because Elliot hurries to change the subject. "Do you need any help with your bags?" Elliot questions Bunny. "Do I look like I need help?" "Umm...no?" "That's right I don't. I've carried them all the way here by myself, I think I can manage to get these to the guestroom." Bunny grabs her suitcase and leaves in a huff. "Umm, who is she, once again?" I asked. "That's Bunny. She's my grandma." My eyebrows shoot up in surprise. "I never would have guessed that. She looks young enough to be his mother." I say to myself. "You look shocked." Elliot points out. "She looks like she's in her forties. Fifties at the most"  'She's had a lot of plastic surgery." Before I can answer, Bunny comes back, scowling. "Gosh, you wouldn't believe the day I had. I had to sit next to someone with peanut allergies on the plane, so I couldn't eat my nuts. And the food they served was practically made for dogs!" Bunny complains. "Gran, I'm sure it wasn't–" "Then some woman stole my cab right in front of my nose. If I had an umbrella, I would have hit her where it hurts!" She scoffs. "That sounds awful. You must be very hungry then" I replied." I'm starving! You better have something edible in this place." She threatens. "Evie and I just ordered food. There should be enough for all three of us." Elliot answered. There's a knock on the door. "That must be the food, I'll get it. Why don't you guys take a seat at the dinner table?" One hour later... "I can't believe her!" I silently yelled. My phone vibrates in my pocket. I pick it up and see a text from Thea. "Hey girl, what are you doing?" Thea questions. "I'm trying hard not to lose it" I replied. "Why??? What's going on?" "Elliot's grandma came over tonight. She's the most unpleasant person I've ever met. She complained about EVERYTHING. The food was too cold, the water was too warm, the silverware wasn't shiny enough... you get the picture." I replied. "Yikes. She sounds like a real piece of work." "No kidding. I was trying really hard all evening, but no matter what I said or did, she just sneered at me." "Maybe it wasn't you? I mean, maybe she just had a bad day." Thea tries to change my mind about but it doesn't work. "No, she definitely doesn't like me." "That can't be true. You're the most likable person I know." Thea tries to comfort me. "She made it very clear that she thinks Elliot married someone below his status. The woman basically called me a gold digger!"  "Who cares about what that old hag thinks? The important thing is that Elliot adores you." "Maybe, but she's important to Elliot. She took of him almost his entire life since his mom traveled a lot." I explained. "Well, to me this sounds like already made up her mind before she even met you. But if it's really bothering you, I can help you. We can go shopping tomorrow to find an outfit so perfect it'll even impress that old hag." She replied.  "You're seriously the best!"  "As long as you know it" Just then, Elliot enters the room. "Hey, gorgeous, you've been gone quite some time. Are you hiding from me?" He teased. "Never." I kiss Elliot on the cheek. 'So, what did you think of Bunny?" Elliot asked. "No offense, Elliot... But if Devil ever had offspring, I'm sure she's one of them." I answered. 'Elliot smirks, clearly amused. "Look, I know she might seem bad... But she's really a great person once you get to know her. She's just not a people person. The only living thing that she can stand beside me is her cat." He explains. "Poor cat," I thought to myself. "She'll warm up to you soon, I promise." "Thanks. I guess that makes me feel a little better." I thanked him. "I'm going to make you feel much better soon." "Is that so?" Elliot smiles at me warmly. "I have a surprise for you." "Really? What kind of surprise?" I questioned. "It seems that you'll have to find out, doesn't it?" I follow Elliot outside, and I gasp when I  see a big, black limo waiting for us. "Is this ours, or is the president here for a visit?" I questioned. "Funny, Evie." "I've never been inside a limo before." "Then what are you waiting for? Get inside." My eyes rove over the leather interior with awe. "Wow, this could definitely fit ten more people. It's so big that, if you installed a mini-fridge, you could actually live here." I smiled. 'I already have a mini fridge in here." "No way? This is just too perfect to be true." Elliot grins at me, obviously finding my reaction hilarious. 'Do you want something to drink?" Elliot asks me. "I'll have a soda if you have any." I answered. "Of course I do. Coming right up." "Where are we going?" I asked. "Actually, we're not going anywhere. My driver is just going to drive us around for a while. I thought we could use some time alone since my grandma is staying over." He explained. "Oh, good thinking. I've missed having you all to myself." "Not more than I have, trust me." "Who would think it's only been a day?" I teased. We laugh. "I'll be right back." Elliot moves to the front of the limo and says something to the driver. A few seconds later, music starts to blast from the speakers. "Listen to the song, Evie." I close my eyes and listen. The first thing I notice is that the song is catchy. I soon find myself tapping my fingers to the beat. Even though at first I believe I never heard this song before, I soon recognize it.  "Wait... is that...?" "Remember The band I signed with a few months ago? We were on a new hit song, and  I asked for your opinion on the bridge?" He asks. 'Of course." I listen to the song more closely, and that's when I hear it. "Elliot! I can't believe you actually used my lyrics." A huge smile spreads over my face. "You thought it was good?" I smiled. "It was the perfect final touch this song needed." Elliot then hands me a piece of glossy-looking paper. "What is this?" I asked. " It's the list of all the people involved in the project." I scan the names... and I spot my own. "You included my name!" "of course. You were a part of it. How could I not?" "not a lot of producers would have... Wow, I can't even begin to tell you what this means to me. This is going to mean a lot to my career." I rejoiced. "You're special, Evie. You're going to do great things, maybe even greater than me. And if there's any way for me to help achieve that, well, I'd be a fool to pass it up" He looks me deep in the eyes, and I can't help myself. I throw my arms around his neck and kiss him passionately. "Is that how you show your gratitude?" He leans his cheek onto my own and murmurs into my ear. "I'll have to make you happy more often." I glance at the closed curtain and see how fast the limo is going. "We should slow down." Elliot grabs my hands and kisses the tip of my nose and I feel my cheeks get warm. "I'm so glad I met you, Elliot." "Same, Evie" The next day... "Thanks for meeting up with me, Thea! I really needed a break from Elliot's grandma." "She really that bad, huh?"  "Yes! This morning, she wanted a special brand of cereal. The ones we had weren't good enough. Which is crazy since Elliot has about ten different flavors" "So, what did you do?" Thea askes. 'I went to the store and got the ones she wanted." Thea raises an eyebrow. "Don't look at me like that. I want to impress her." "You're not going to impress her by buying her cereal." She tells me. I release a heavy sigh. "You're right, like always. So what should I do?" I questioned. "Just show her how much you and Elliot care about each other." "Except everything about our relationship is fake" I corrected her, "Don't be ridiculous. There's nothing fake about the way you look at each other. " Thea whinks at me. "We're just attracted to each other, that's all." I try to brush off what Thea said. "Liar, liar, pants on fire!" Thea teased.  "What are you, twelve?" "I'm just saying it as it is. I really think that Elliot has strong feelings for you. In fact, Paul thinks so too." she smiles. "You and Paul talk about us?" 'yeah, all the time! You two are a hot topic right now. You really spice up our relationship." She confesses. "Lord..." "not like that! Now, come on... Let's find you something to wear to impress the cranky granny!" A few moments later... "You look amazing!" Thea compliments me. "Thank you! This one's perfect." I drive back home, hoping that Bunny will be impressed.  "Dinner's in two hours. I have plent of time to prepare everything. I should definitely impress her with my cooking skills! She'll be blown away by my mango chicken curry." I shake my head, thinking about last night. "I really hope this dinner will go better than the last one." Suddenly, Elliot enters the room... and slams the door hard behind him. AsI look up, I immediately notice a grim look on his face. "What's wrong?" I ask. '"This. This is wrong." He hands me a piece of paper and I look at it.  "It is a letter from the court... Mina is suing him!"
