UNCERTAINTY - PART 2

The Duke slowly peered in the bath's entrance. There he found Faye on the floor, wrapped in Mielle's arms, weeping silently into her lap.

"What in heaven's name…?" he asked, worried etched in his words.

Mielle was swift to explain. "She has been like this on and off all day. It is normal for women who are pregnant to be moody for no reason, your Grace."

Sterling furrowed his brow at the maid's explanation. He knew Faye, and she did not cry at the drop of a hat. Something had to push her to show such emotions.

The Duke bent down and gathered Faye in his arms, and when she looked up, he could see the look of utter despair in her eyes. She buried her head in his chest and let out another stifled sob.

He eyed the maid with indifference, asking, "Mielle, could you please leave us?"

The maid raised herself from the floor and dusted her skirt. "Yes, your Grace." she said, and left them alone in the bath.
