RECEPTION - PART 2

Faye ignored Sterling's taunts and got to her feet. Standing on her tiptoes before him, she carefully scrutinized his ruby eyes to be sure it was really him and not Arvon, the naughty red dragon making another unwelcome reappearance.

"What are you doing?" The Duke asked, catching the leary expression in Faye's eyes.

Faye's statement was flat and filled with an underlying intensity as she made it clear, "I am making sure it is you in there behind those crimson eyes testing my patience and not the demonic Draco Arvon." For a moment there, I got scared. By how you are so cruelly teasing me, it was almost impossible to discern if it was you or him.

The Duke chuckled at Faye's admission. "I promise, sweet girl, he will not bother you ever again."

Merrick walked over to check if the commander and his duchess were prepared to leave. "Commander, we're done here. Are you and the Duchess ready to go back to the Fortress?"
