Until You Change Your Mind.

Amelie

I tried calling Hassan's phone for the eleventh time now, but he didn't answer any of my calls. He didn't switch his phone off, he made sure that it was on so I could waste every hope I had on wishing he would just pick up the phone.

It had been a mistake to leave the children in Joye's care without first warning her about Hassan and the possibilities of him visiting. It wasn't Joye's fault, and I didn't blame her in the littlest of ways. After she had explained everything to me, I completely understood why she would let Junior leave with Hassan. She had Hassan's phone number, and that was proof enough that she hadn't let my baby off with some random stranger.

I tried calling Hassan once again, but he didn't answer. The phone seemed like an empty line, and each unanswered call deepened my anguish. My mind raced, wondering where he could have taken my baby and I couldn't help but imagine all the worst-case scenarios.
