I wrestled with a solution for Mira’s safety for the rest of the afternoon. 


Battle with Damon and his rogues was imminent. If I chose to stay back and protect Mira, I feared it would only pique Damon’s curiosity. Why would an Alpha skip out on a battle for his own territory simply to protect a human girl? It was too risky, I couldn’t afford to draw any unwanted attention to her.


I met with Grayson privately before the council gathered that evening.


“Grayson, my most trusted friend, and wolf, I have a very important mission for you,” I stated, my voice laced with urgency. "I need you to stay behind and protect Mira and Jane during the upcoming battle."
