Chapter 48: Just a Hunch

*MIRA’S POV*

I turned my attention back to Trae, our gazes locking. The love we shared was undeniable, yet his fear of my fragility threatened to disrupt the very prophecy that had brought us together.

“What was that all about?” he questioned as he and Jane approached me when their dance was over.

“I’m really tired,” I replied. “Can we talk about it on our way back to our tent?”

“Tired!?” Jane exclaimed. “But the night is young!”

“Mira is still recovering,” Trae pointed out. “She should probably get some rest.”

“Is that what you call it?” she jeered. “Fine then… All the more wine for me!”

“It was really good wine, I hate to let you have it all, you lush,” I admitted with a wink then hugged her goodnight.

She kissed me on the cheek and danced her way back into the crowd. I was happy to see her having such a good time. It had been an intense few weeks, to say the least.

Traetook my hand and led me toward our tent.
