Standing outside my apartment door, I take a second to gather my thoughts. This is going to be a tough conversation with a lot of explaining and a lot of hurt feelings. Especially after how great this morning was, I really don’t want to put a damper on my day. That being said, I’m still pretty pissed at Kirby and need to know what the hell is going on.
Sighing, I slide my key into the lock and push open the door. Unsurprisingly, both Kirby and River are seated at the kitchen table, Kirby with his head bowed apologetically as I step inside. I slide off my shoes and drop my keys in the nearby bowl. The silence is already deafening. Great.
“I’m not going to take ‘This was all a misunderstanding’ as an answer, so if that’s all you got, try again.” I pull out a chair across from the two of them and sit, my arms folded in front of me. Hate being the bad cop in these situations, but I’m not going to let them walk all over me here.
“Are you alright?” River asks, tentative but sincere.
