Chapter 41: And So It Begins

While I wish our night of passion could last forever, the sun still chooses to rise. The morning goes by in a blur - getting ready, running through the plan, passionate kisses, and frantic goodbyes.

Now I’m here, pacing in front of Eileen’s home by myself. As the live bait, I feel like I should have a neon sign hanging around my neck saying, “Kill Me First!” but of course we couldn’t get that made in time. Bummer.

Either way, here I am, contemplating my existence in front of this massive house on a day that is far warmer than it has any right to be this late into fall. I can feel the sweat collecting on my back. Are my palms sweaty too? Awesome. I am a mess. I gotta pull myself together before-

“Just when I thought you couldn’t get any stupider, here you are, prancing around like the dumb little human you are.”

Without even turning around, I can tell Bea’s spotted me. It’s game on from here on out.

“Where’s your keeper?” she asks, finally stepping in front of me.
