Chapter 50: Together Forever

“And that should be the last of it!” River calls out, jumping down from the moving truck and wiping her hands on the back of her pants.

“God, I can’t believe how much stuff I managed to fit in that tiny room,” I reply, adjusting my sunglasses on this unusually warm spring day. “Maybe my mom was right. Maybe I really am turning into a hoarder.”

“I’d say. Six boxes of books? Who even reads anymore,” Kirby huffs, taking a long chug from his water bottle.

Eileen comes up behind me, casually slipping her arm around my waist. “I certainly do.”

“You’re practically an antique yourself. Of course you read,” he jokes back.

Eileen and Kirby banter back and forth a bit, teasing and taunting one another. It’s strange, especially considering how much tension was built up the first time the two formally met one another. But they have really started hitting it off recently. I can’t help but smile, watching my best friend and my girlfriend get along so well.
