"Huh!" "Huh!"... The burly man, having lost an arm, stood in front of the Moonshadow Panther he had killed with a spear through its head, a slight smirk of triumph on his face.
"Beast, bet you didn't see this coming. I'm not only skilled with an axe, but also with throwing spears."
However, his smile quickly stiffened as he realized he was now the target of several ferocious wolves.
"Damn it." The burly man grimaced, revealing teeth stained red with blood, as he reached out with his remaining hand to pick up his battle axe, a faint light of fighting spirit covering it.
Even now, the burly man took the time to survey his surroundings. After all, ferocious wolves were not a significant danger to him; they were merely enough to be fatal if he wasn't careful—a minor detail.
"What a pity!" The burly man watched ordinary soldiers and low-level adventurers struggling against bronze-level monsters, and lone wolves like him intercepting mixed-in low-rank silver monsters, with a tinge of sympathy.
Above the city walls, the ground was no longer visible; monsters and humans alike could only fight by stepping on the corpses of their kin, the thick, almost liquid scent of blood filling the air with each breath.
"Why are these powerful birds attacking our city?" The burly man swung his axe, flinging away a ferocious wolf that had lunged at him, and glanced helplessly at the spiritual birds still attacking the city's protective barrier...
"When will reinforcements arrive? I can barely hold on any longer." Panting heavily, the burly man stood on a wolf's corpse, his sweat mingling with the blood on his body.
"If they don't come soon, the defense will break, and no one in this city will survive." Watching the thinning spiritual shield, despair began to show on the burly man's face.
His physical strength and fighting spirit were nearly depleted, yet monsters continued to pour over the city walls incessantly, seemingly endless.
"Looks like I'm really going to die here today." As his limbs began to feel weak, the burly man prepared to meet his end, "Ah, only now do I remember that I don't even have a son. I should have found a woman and gotten married."
"Warrior, focus on the fight." A stern voice sounded behind the burly man, and at the same time, he felt something land on him.
His physical and mental fatigue vanished instantly, and turning around, he saw a young woman standing atop a pile of corpses, dressed in a blood-stained priestess robe, her expression serious as she cast her holy spells. This was a High Priestess.
"Alright." Seeing the not particularly attractive, even plain, female High Priestess, the burly man suddenly felt reinvigorated, the motivation to survive surging through him.
"Be careful!" Just as he was filled with this new emotion, the burly man angrily watched a raptor pounce towards the priestess, who was blessing a group of soldiers with her holy spells.
"Splat!" Bone fragments splattered with white brain matter, leaving the burly man stunned by the sight. When the raptor attacked, the seemingly fragile priestess pulled out a flail and smashed the creature's head to pieces with a swing.
"What are you looking at? Get back to killing those monsters." Seeing the dumbfounded one-armed warrior, the priestess, holding a staff in one hand and a bloodied double-headed flail in the other, chided him.
"Oh, right, I'm on it." Hearing her scolding, the burly man shyly smiled and blushed for a moment, his heart beating faster.
"May the gods bless me, if I survive this, I'll definitely pursue her." Filled with a newfound will to live, the man with one arm continued to wield his axe, cutting down monsters that surged onto the city wall, his spirits higher than ever.
Crack! But soon after, a grating sound of breaking came from above. Hearing this, the man, covered in a glow from the holy spells, saw his face fall into despair.
He looked up to see the spiritual shield blocking the ferocious birds and gold-level monsters had shattered; the city was lost.
"Damn it!" "It's over." "Oh, God!"...
"Scream!" "Scream!" Unlike the humans below in the city, who were falling into despair, two soul-level ferocious birds cried out joyfully together, and the gold-level monsters they had driven here roared excitedly.
Ice, thunder, hurricanes, acid... Countless elemental attacks fell on the human city's now-collapsed defenses, followed by the two ferocious birds leading all the gold-level monsters in a charge against the doomed city.
"Hey, it's all over." Watching the elemental attacks fall towards the broken spiritual shield and towards the city walls, the burly man reluctantly glanced at the blood-stained white-robed priestess, threw his battle axe aside, looked up at a large fireball falling towards him, and slowly closed his eyes with resignation.
"Boom!" "Boom!"... Amid the intense explosions and booming noises, the man surprisingly opened his eyes after a while, realizing he was still alive.
"What's this?" The one-armed man soon understood why he was still alive. Unbeknownst to them, a black-haired young man riding a red dragon and holding up a magic array had appeared before their section of the city wall, blocking all the attacks.
"Reinforcements have arrived." Seeing the black-haired youth on the red dragon blocking all the attacks alone, the one-armed man's face lit up with ecstatic joy; this time, he could survive.
But what troubled him was that this young-looking person, after blocking the attacks, didn't start fighting the attacking monsters.
Instead, he began communicating with the pair of ferocious birds in a language the man couldn't understand. Soon, a faint golden aura of authority emanated from this person, enveloping everything on the battlefield.
Under this overwhelming presence, the burly man involuntarily knelt down, then looked up anxiously and excitedly at the dragon-riding figure. The one-armed man realized something—the being before them was not human.
Quickly, the hard-trying man looked up to see the terrifying figure riding the red dragon slowly turn to face them, his expression cold and his eyes indifferent.
"What's going on?" The one-armed man was somewhat perplexed, feeling uneasy as he didn't understand why their savior was now showing such an expression...
...
"Auston, the human city's defenses are broken, teleport directly in front of the human city."
"Weren't we not using teleportation magic?"
"Are you an idiot? That was during movement, not during battle."
"Got it!" Chastised again by Muria, Auston used his mage skills to teleport them above the human defensive walls, facing all the elemental attacks head-on.
"The Final Barrier!" Seeing the overwhelming elemental attacks headed his way, Muria's face showed an eager excitement.
Then, he took out his personal staff, raised it high above his head, and using the magic array as a medium, channeled the power he had just acquired to cast a powerful defensive spell he had never used before.
