Killing Rats

Blake blinked one time before he instantly rushes over to the Limited VR Helmet.

"Should I bring this damn thing around all the time?! If at any time my avatar could've been in danger like this, then I should, right?" he asked as he sat down on his gaming chair and wears the VR Helmet hurriedly.

But Salana shakes her head, "If I have the all-purpose phone, this could be avoided"

Once again, Blake could only curse himself as it was the all-purpose phone job to notify about something like this, it turns out to be very important. If he didn't do that stunt then maybe everything would be normal.

'Then again, if I didn't do it, I wouldn't have gained the Supernatural Enigma title'

Deciding to not fret about it, he quickly logged into the game.

It only takes half a minute before the neural link was connected to him and his mind slowly got pulled deep into the darkness, and the next thing he felt was the cold night air brushing against his body.

"Wuahh!"

Blake jolted his eyes awake and finds himself inside the game.

Since he has only been outside about three hours more or less, it should be past midnight inside the game, and the place is still shrouded in the tenebrous of the night. If not for the canopy of the forest, it shouldn't be this dark though.

Considering this world have seven moons, the night shouldn't be as dark as this.

Blake scans around and finds Tara has fallen asleep, it seems she accidentally fell asleep and forgot to wake him up to exchange night watch shift which is weird, 'How can she be this careless? Isn't she an assassin?'

As he thought of that, he suddenly notice a thick scent of blood in the air.

Frowning for a second, he walks around the bonfire in search for the source before he eventually squatted beside Tara, the scent of blood comes from her. Reaching out his hand, he tries to shake Tara's body.

Despite his attempt, she didn't respond and is unmoving.

Instinctively, Blake quickly puts his finger below her nose to check her breathing.

'Phew, I thought she died. But her breath seems weak, is she hurt?'

Scanning her body, he then decided to reach out to her black robe that wrapped around her body completely from top to bottom. It hides her body completely without a gap, and it also seemed to be wet.

Opening the black robe lightly, Blake's eyes widened as he quickly turns his face away.

Upon opening the black robe he finds that Tara's body was covered in wounds, she was bleeding very badly. Since she was already bleeding from earlier, Blake didn't find the scent of blood from her weird.

Now that he was aware, he didn't see her treating her wounds or anything.

'Woosah... I can deal with this, I shouldn't be tempted by her blood, you're strong, right? This is nothing' Blake thought inside his head, trying to convince himself that he was not tempted by the blood.

But from this incident, he finds out one important thing.

Compared to the lust for blood that he experienced earlier with Angel, the urge right now is not that bad. A drop of Angel's blood earlier makes him almost go crazy, and yet this much blood from Tara barely matches the sensation.

'Hmm... is it because in a way, I'm still human in my real body?' Blake thought.

Shaking his head, he then closes back Tara's robe again before he ponders for a moment. It's clear that if her injuries were left like this, she wouldn't see the sunrise for sure, and he needs to do something.

While he was thinking, Blake can feel the veins on his neck bulging.

If he stayed here any longer then he wouldn't be able to stop himself from pouncing on Tara, so he decided that he would need to get out of here in search of anything that could help appease her wounds.

Just as he decided to help, his eyes caught sight of a shadow, and he was alerted.

But it turns out to be Salana that came back from somewhere.

"I find five assassins who are sneaking around the place, searching for Linthia I suppose. It seems they are the ones that triggered the VR Helmet to start beeping" She informed, turns out she was in search of the threat looming around the place.

Upon hearing this, Blake smiled, "Perfect! Just the thing I need"

Earlier, he was confused as to what he should do to treat Tara's wounds. In his defense, the three of them are inside a forest so there's nothing much. Additionally, he also didn't find any need to wake up Linthia.

Blake reckons that there must be a reason why Tara keeps her condition to herself.

It must be because of Linthia, Tara doesn't want to make her worry.

Due to that, he decided to try and search for anything around without waking up Lintha. Of course, if push comes to shove, he would need to wake her up. Linthia came from this world, so she must know something to help.

'Now that there are assassins around, it seems there was no need to wake her up'

After beating the mercenaries earlier, he only finds nothing but money on their corpses. But these are assassins, they must be well-equipped, and one of them should definitely bring a couple of healing potions.

Grabbing his sword, Blake then looks around and spotted the assassins.

Most of the people in this world would definitely find it hard to find these assassins, they are quite good at their jobs. However, it's quite easy for Blake who is a Spectral Vampire, he can see better at night.

Looking around the place, he could already see the blood pumping inside of the assassins.

Once again, his Nocturnal Blood Sight skill is definitely one of the most useful and powerful skills he gained from becoming a Spectral Vampire. It's extremely powerful at night, and definitely makes him quite horrifying.

"What are their levels? Can you see them?" Blake asked.

Salana then replied quite confidently, "None of them are too strong for you"

"Alright then, seems like they aren't sure how the previous mercenary group died. Let's keep it that way by killing these rats" Blake mutters with a savage smile, his purple glowing eyes darting to the nearest two assassins on the right.

Before dashing away, he went over to the bonfire and stepped on it to take it out.

Meanwhile, in the nearby part of the forest.

"Weird... are the mercenaries that weak that they couldn't even take down a single one of them?" An assassin, clad in a black and red mask alongside a black long-sleeve combat suit with a bow in his hand said to his comrade.

His comrade, holding two daggers shrugs his shoulders, "They probably got careless"

Both of them are currently going in the north direction, searching for their targets as they found the corpses of the mercenary group that was sent here earlier and got taken down rather embarrassingly.

Out of the corpses, none of them belong to the target's group which is pathetic.

"Use your skill to check the front, I think I saw smoke coming from there" the assassin with two daggers gestured to a place in the distance, where a plume of smoke was rising up into the air subtly.

Upon hearing this, the other assassin nodded his head and uses his skill.

"Eagle Eyes..."

As soon as he cast that skill, the pupils in his eyes dilated as his vision got enhanced. Looking at the plume of smoke, he nodded his head in agreement. It seems that smoke is the right place to search for the targets.

"I think we found them, it should be coming from a bo-"

Just as he said that, his eyes widened seeing an object coming straight at them.

In response to this, the assassin holding a bow quickly pushed his comrade out of the way.

Feeling the breeze brushing against his cheek when he felt the red object fly past a couple of centimeters away from his face, the assassin holding the daggers instantly realizes that they were under attack.

But then, he sensed something on his back which brought a bad omen.

Glancing over his shoulders, he was shocked once again seeing a pair of purple eyes staring straight at him. It was so fast that he didn't have the time to react properly, his entire being trembled in fear.

"W- When did he get here...?"

A moment earlier, Blake spotted the two from afar and hide himself behind a tree.

Since these two assassins are quite close to the bonfire, he anticipated them to come his way as the smoke from the bonfire is quite eye-catching for them to see. And true enough, they caught sight of the smoke and head closer.

In an instant, he used up all the Blood Reserve and cast a Blood Lance skill at one of them.

Knowing that the other one is holding a bow while the other is holding two daggers, he decided to aim at the one holding the two daggers first. In close-quarter, the assassin with the bow wouldn't be a problem at all.

Following that Blood Lance he used his Shadow Step to appear behind the assassin.

Blake timed it perfectly as he managed to catch the Blood Lance that the assassin with the two daggers managed to barely dodge with the help of his comrade, his eyes then flashes before he jabbed it into the assassin's neck.

Splash!

Like a broken faucet, blood splashes from the other side as the assassin was horrified.

Not wanting to go down without a fight, the assassin uses his left dagger and swung it with the intention of stabbing Blake in the neck too. But his movement was slow, Blake could easily see it coming.

Leaning back a little, the dagger missed but Blake pushes the handle.

Splash!

Out of the assassin's bafflement, his left hand with the dagger moved to stab the other side of his own neck. In a fraction of a second, his eyes rolled back as life exited his body. He then fell limp to the ground, lifeless.

Upon seeing his comrade killed, the other assassin quickly draws his arrow.

It only takes less than a second for the assassin to ready the arrow and fired it straight at the unknown person that suddenly attacked them, he also uses a skill to increase the damage and penetration power of the arrow.

"Power Strike!"

Swoosh!

As the arrow flew, Blake instantly saw a green liquid adorning the head of the arrow, poison.

But with his superior speed, he cast Shadow Step and appeared behind the arrow.

The moment he saw Blake's body get swallowed by the shadow and reappear behind the arrow, effectively dodging it easily, the assassin's expression drains from all color as he know that he was not Blake's match.

Swiftly, Blake clutches the assassin's neck and lifted him off the ground.

Looking at the assassin's eyes for a fleeting second, he snatches an arrow from the assassin's quiver. Inspecting the green liquid at the arrowhead, he then thrust it into the assassin's neck.

Blake watches as the poison quickly spread, leading to the assassin's ultimate demise.

After killing the two assassins, he then can move on to the other three assassins.

None of them are way stronger than the two assassins that he killed, so he definitely could take them down easily. "But first, so that I won't be thirsty when I tend to Tara later, I should drink their blood, right?"

Smiling mischievously, Blake went over to the assassin with the dagger.

Crouching beside his corpse, he then lifted it up before he started devouring the blood to satiate his hunger as well as to fill back his Blood Reserve. It was a disturbing sight, and the three assassins would flee if they saw this with their own eyes.

None of them are ready for what's about to come.
