DAY 3 {6 HOURS TO DAY 4}

   The doors of the station were all open so we snucked in. The whole base was empty. " Close the door " Racheal said. " What! Why ...." I asked in whispers. " Well, we don't want what's out there to get in here " she whispered back. " What if what's out there is already in here, you know.... somewhere" I said. " Will you close the door already? " " Ok... Ok Jeez ". "Now, let's spread out to cover more grounds" she said. I took the left wing, she took the right. The sights were disturbing and gross. Blood on the wall, blood on the floor, blood on the counter.... Five days old. We searched and searched still nothing. I checked my dad's office, it was trash. It looked like a massive struggle to live had occured. Racheal placed her hand on my shoulder " I'm sure he got out " "Of course, he did. He's the toughest man I know" I said and chuckled nervously. Deep down, I was more worried about my parents than myself. We searched harder and was able to find the city's map, a binocular, a pistol and a few ammo. Racheal cocked and reloaded the revolver like she had used one before. She caught me staring and said "What? ..... I used to hunt with my old man". "With pistols? " I said. She ignored me. A sound came from the dog kennel. I could hear growling and barking from behind the door. Whatever was behind the door was trying force it open by all means. "Shit! We need to go like now." I said. "What! Why? we haven't found a Sat-phone" she objected. "If that door opens, we're in deep shit." I said dragging her. "Let go of me, creep. That phone's my only chance of finding my dad... and yours and the safe haven." She said almost crying. "I'm not leaving here without it." She added. I sighed. "Fine but if I die, it's all on you." The noise grew worse. Someone must have locked it for a reason. But the door won't hold for long, I knew that and just wished Racheal did. We kept searching. "Found it but there's no battery" I said. "No worries. Let's go". At that moment, the door crashed to the floor releasing a small group of dogs; severely wounded and aggressive. "Zombie Hounds" I shouted. We ran to the door. I struggled with the key on the chain. "I told you locking the door was a bad idea." I said. The noise woke a few zombies outside as the door flung open. We ran through the horde. Our "rash and dash" movements, the barking and noise woke all sleeping zombies around. The epic chase began. The zombies were really fast not like in the movies. "We need to lose'em" I said. "What's your big idea, genius" "Divide and conquer.... I mean, survive!" "Divide and Survive? Really. That's all you could come up with." "What..... I saw it work in a movie... once" I said. "Well, this is no movie. This is real fucking life. Lose the bag, it's slowing you down." "What! Are you nuts? I'll run faster, don't worry about me" "Ok, I won't " Rachel said. She turned around and fired a few shots and instantly some zombies dropped dead. We took a sharp left and ran straight into the nearest automobile store. "Get a key. We've gotta go." We found a key to an old Toyota Tacoma truck. The engine took a while before it camee to life. The car purred and gave us gentle seat massage as it vibrated but there was no time to enjoy any spa treatment. We drove off. "Where to?" Rachel asked. "Ok, the embassy is where we need to go". "How far?". "Well, I'd say three to four days of constant driving". "Whoa that's far and we're almost out of gas. I'll take the open road. Be on the lookout for gas stations." Racheal swirled hard into the main roads. She constantly had to swirl left or right to avoid zombies. We had to stop near a gas station after a three-hour hard drive. "We're finally out of gas" Racheal said. "The engine's fried and worn out." I said amidst coughs as the smoke filled my lungs. "Cover the van. We don't want someone stealing it" Racheal said as she walked towards the station. "Hey, wait up." I said. We got gas and some batteries for the phone. We tried to start the car but I guess it was too tired to work and so were we. "Let's get shelter. It's getting creepy out here." For some strange reasons, I felt watched. We had potatoes and a bottle of soda for dinner. Racheal grabbed the sat phone and turned it on. There were no signals, just noise. After an hour or so, we're asleep and that was when they came.
