It began when a rose-like smell assaulted his nose. 

Ylana Sapphire and Rowan Garnet are the children of two mafia bosses. To build an alliance between their families, their fathers arrange a marriage between the two.

Rowan is reluctant because he and his family are secretly wolf shifters and Ylana seems to hate both the plan and Rowan for unknown reasons. But all that changes when Rowan discovers that Ylana is his mate.

Now Ylana is left not only navigating the new world of shifters but marriage within the mafia world as well.

Rowan cleared his throat. "You know, we don't have to do anything tonight, or ever, if you don't want. One of the couches has a pull-out bed I can sleep on."

Ylana made her decision right then. "I think we should. That way we can know if we're . . . compatible that way.” She heard Rowan's breath quicken. "If you want."

Rowan wasn’t sure why he was so nervous about the date he planned. It wasn’t as if he had never spent any time alone with Ylana. Perhaps it was because this was the first time where he was actually trying to impress her. 


Halloween had been just the two of them having a little bit of fun. This was a chance for Rowan to show how romantic he could be. The problem was, he’d never been romantic with anyone before. All previous dates had been blind dates with shifter women. Once he and the date realized they weren’t mates, it usually became an awkward dinner. 


It was going to be so different with Ylana. He needed to show her how much she mattered. He wanted her to feel like she could fall in love with him. 


Rowan fidgeted nervously in the front hall while he waited for Ylana to finish getting ready. He held a bouquet of roses and hoped she liked them. Roses had been all over their wedding, and since Ylana had enjoyed that night so much, he hoped they would make her happy.
