It began when a rose-like smell assaulted his nose. 

Ylana Sapphire and Rowan Garnet are the children of two mafia bosses. To build an alliance between their families, their fathers arrange a marriage between the two.

Rowan is reluctant because he and his family are secretly wolf shifters and Ylana seems to hate both the plan and Rowan for unknown reasons. But all that changes when Rowan discovers that Ylana is his mate.

Now Ylana is left not only navigating the new world of shifters but marriage within the mafia world as well.

Rowan cleared his throat. "You know, we don't have to do anything tonight, or ever, if you don't want. One of the couches has a pull-out bed I can sleep on."

Ylana made her decision right then. "I think we should. That way we can know if we're . . . compatible that way.” She heard Rowan's breath quicken. "If you want."

Rowan felt that taking Ylana to the mate ball was a good thing. Whether Ylana realized it or not, the pack was warming up to her. Parents loved their children’s excitement after Ylana shared her idea to throw dances for them. 


The best part was that the parents even trusted Ylana with their children. When people came for private meetings with Harkin, the kids now went off to find Ylana. Some days Ylana had impromptu story time in the library. It was rare for an outsider to be treated like that, so it must mean they were beginning to think of Ylana as part of the pack. 


Harkin also liked the progress being made with introducing Ylana to the pack, so he was on board with the plan of her going to the ball. Ginger was so thrilled to have another friend come along that she clapped happily, but Carmine seemed apprehensive and stated that he worried about what other packs would think when they heard a human was there.
