Chapter 49: Home

Ylana POV

“Please! I’m pregnant!” Ylana gasped in an attempt to stop Carmine from shooting her so that whoever was running toward them could take him down.

She heard a plunk in the water and looked up at Carmine. He had dropped the gun and his eyes were human again. “What?”

Ylana got to her feet, thankful that the ocean was only producing soft waves. “It’s true. I’m going to have twins.”

Carmine’s teeth were no longer pointed and his claws had disappeared. Disbelief and regret clouded his face.

Did Ylana find the one thing to say to make all the madness stop? Maybe in his twisted way, Carmine loved the Garnets. It was his excuse for taking her after all. Maybe her carrying the next generation of Garnets suddenly made her worthy of protection. She should have said something earlier.
