It began when a rose-like smell assaulted his nose. 

Ylana Sapphire and Rowan Garnet are the children of two mafia bosses. To build an alliance between their families, their fathers arrange a marriage between the two.

Rowan is reluctant because he and his family are secretly wolf shifters and Ylana seems to hate both the plan and Rowan for unknown reasons. But all that changes when Rowan discovers that Ylana is his mate.

Now Ylana is left not only navigating the new world of shifters but marriage within the mafia world as well.

Rowan cleared his throat. "You know, we don't have to do anything tonight, or ever, if you don't want. One of the couches has a pull-out bed I can sleep on."

Ylana made her decision right then. "I think we should. That way we can know if we're . . . compatible that way.” She heard Rowan's breath quicken. "If you want."

Ylana had never been able to guess how much time had passed in situations where she didn’t have access to a clock. It could have been hours or minutes since she told Indigo Carmine was responsible for her disappearance. How long would it take for someone to come get her? Had anyone already been searching for her near the shore? Would she have to wait about two hours for people to get to her from the city? 


She was thankful, however, that she seemed to put Carmine in a good mood when she said she would choose to go far away with Indigo. She couldn’t tell if she managed to stall things or speed them up. Carmine quickly made her write a goodbye note to Rowan telling him she was taking Indigo and going away because she didn’t want to put the pack in danger anymore. She had to write that Rowan shouldn’t try to find her and that things were best this way. Then she had to encourage him to find a shifter woman to have children with to keep the Garnet legacy going.
