It began when a rose-like smell assaulted his nose. 

Ylana Sapphire and Rowan Garnet are the children of two mafia bosses. To build an alliance between their families, their fathers arrange a marriage between the two.

Rowan is reluctant because he and his family are secretly wolf shifters and Ylana seems to hate both the plan and Rowan for unknown reasons. But all that changes when Rowan discovers that Ylana is his mate.

Now Ylana is left not only navigating the new world of shifters but marriage within the mafia world as well.

Rowan cleared his throat. "You know, we don't have to do anything tonight, or ever, if you don't want. One of the couches has a pull-out bed I can sleep on."

Ylana made her decision right then. "I think we should. That way we can know if we're . . . compatible that way.” She heard Rowan's breath quicken. "If you want."

It took Rowan and Harkin some time to come up with a plan of attack so they could get Ylana away from Carmine. Many of their issues involved thinking of how to outsmart Carmine. While they had an advantage over him thanks to Ylana and Indigo’s weird trick, Carmine was still the smartest man they both knew. There was also the fact that they didn’t know how many pack members were on Carmine’s side to consider. Who would tell Carmine once they decided to mobilize the pack? 


Eventually, Indigo and Lily came back from wherever they followed Ginger to, looking a little shocked.  


Harkin looked up from his desk with sad eyes that had a hint of fire in them. He was still quietly reeling from the revelation. “How is she? Where did she go?”


Indigo sat down with a frown. “Ginger is a mess. She’s sobbing in Carmine’s suite right now. We couldn’t get a word out of her.”
