CHAPTER 1....

Alina is in the midst of a great struggle to convince her patient at the hospital.

"Please ma'am, we have to get you admitted so you can get all the required treatments and rest you need to recover," Alina said in a low tone with a bow.

The patient pushed her away and Alina fell to the ground.

"Do you have any idea what I do for a living? You're just a nurse who only does what she's told to do and what right do you have to suggest a thing to me? You should have a look at the mirror and then think twice before talking to anyone" The patient yelled and Alina stood up and wiped her cloth.

Alina is a nurse who works at Margolis hospital. She's 27 years old and she lives with her father.

Alina clenched her fist as she reminisced about her past when she was pushed into a dirty pool by kids of the same age as her.

A doctor and his freshman doctors walked up to where Alina and the patient were causing a scene and they pushed Alina aside.

"Ma'am, is everything okay? You don't seem to be comfortable with the company of our nurse here" The doctor uttered with a half smile and the patient smiled widely.

"Yes doctor, she's really terrible at giving suggestions. She has no idea who I am and she had the nerve to suggest I stay at the hospital" The patient complained.

"I'm sorry ma'am for that. She's only new here, she doesn't know how things work here. It's not a good idea to get you admitted here, that wouldn't be good for your image. The public can't find out about your accident" The doctor said and the patient smiled with a nod.

"You know exactly how I feel doctor. You're the best but what do you suggest we do, Doc?"

The doctor glanced at Alina and then turned back to the patient.

"I suggest, you continue your treatment at home. The hospital will send a nurse to you and that way, the public wouldn't get a glimpse of what's going on. What do you think about it, ma'am?" The doctor asked politely and the patient smiled widely.

"Great idea, Doc. I love it and it will be more convenient"

"Alright ma'am, your nurse will get the paper works done immediately," The doctor said and looked at Alina but she was absentminded.

"Miss Alina, what are you waiting for? Go get the paper works done. You will be Mrs Smith's nurse for the month till her treatment is over" The doctor announced and Alina's eyes widened in shock.

"Professor, how can I be her nurse? She's not comfortable with me and she told you herself, why to assign me?" Alina asked with a serious face.

"Are you in any position to talk back at me? You're lucky the patient still wants to be treated in our hospital. You're lucky she didn't take this so far" The doctor said seriously.

"I will take my leave now, ma'am," He said with a little bow before walking away.

He walked past Alina and then stopped.

"You should know your place already. All you have to do is obey all my orders" The doctor said and walked away.

Alina watched them leave and a frown appeared on her face.

Doctor Nolan, that jerk! Alina cursed in her head.

It all started on the day of my job interview. Alina said in her head.

FLASHBACK***

Alina rushed out of her room anxiously as she struggled to put her shoes on.

"Daughter, take it easy. You might end up ruining your shoes if you put them on in such haste" Sam, Alina's dad said as he served breakfast on the table.

"I can't dad, I'm running late for my interview. I have no idea why I'm running late today when I woke up very early" Alina said still putting her shoes on.

"It always happens when you're anxious. Anyways, come and have breakfast before you leave. You shouldn't leave home with an empty stomach" Sam pointed out and Alina admired the dining table from where she was standing.

"I'm sorry, dad but I don't think I will be able to take in anything with the current state I'm in right now. I can barely swallow my saliva, I'm so nervous" Alina said with sweat popping out of her forehead.

"It's okay, sweetie. Grab a juice at the fridge before leaving. You can take that on your way to the hospital" Sam said and swiftly Alina opened the fridge and grabbed a can of mango juice.

She turned to her father on getting to the door with a nervous look on her face.

"Wish you luck sweetie" Sam smiled and Alina nodded before leaving.

Alina got into the bus but then an accident occurred on the way and the bus had to stop. A deliveryman got hit by a hit and run vehicle.

It was taking ages for the ambulance to get there.

"Oh no, what should I do?" Alina panicked as she watched the patient lose some blood on his arm and she had a glance at her wristwatch.

I've got some minutes left. Alina said in her head and she opened her bag, she brought out some surgical gloves and she put them on.

"Move away please" Alina said and rushed to the patient.

Minutes later...

Alina was seen running to the hospital. She got into the hospital and she noticed the gloves on her hands.

"Can I be anymore forgetful" Alina groaned and threw the gloves into the nearby trash bin.

Then head down to the interview floor.

"What's she doing? She can't throw surgical gloves there" A doctor complained from behind but Alina left already.

"Does she work here?" Doctor Nolan asked with a blank expression.

"I don't think so. I've never seen her before but with the look of things, I think she's also here for the interview"

.....

Alina and two other interviewees were seated next to her in an upright position.

They're both seated in such nice posture, I'm the only one who stands out. I guess I should be left out. Alina said in her head and adjusted her back and shoulders.

"We will start with the first person" One of the professors said and Alina looked at her fellow interviewees.

"You're the first person so what are you looking at?" The professor asked with professional tone.

"Good day professors, my name is..." Alina couldn't complete her introduction when doctor Nolan cut in.

"No one asked for your name. Why do you think we've got your resume on our table" Doctor Nolan said coldly and Alina swallowed hard.

"Why do you wish to work here? And for some reason do you always have that on?" A professor asked as he referred to Alina's mask.

Alina touched it as she tried hard to put on a smile.

"Yes sir, I always have it on. And the reason I wish to work here is to fulfill my destiny. I've got healing hands so I wish to make use of it on patients" Alina said confidently and Nolan scoffed.

The rest of the professors looked at each other then had a glance at Alina's resume.

"You're supposed to be a nurse but why do you look so unkept? You've got some blood stains on your shirt. What does that signify? Do you think you're worthy of being a nurse here?" Doctor Nolan asked cruelly and Alina tried to cover the stains with her hand.

"Emm.. I had an emergency on my way so"

"No one asked for an explanation, you have no excuse to give for that because you know exactly what you're here for" Nolan added in a beat and Alina bite her lower lip frustratedly.

After the interview Alina rushed down to the washroom with a downcast look on her face.

She looked very dispirited. She sat at the closet when she heard some girls gossip.

"I hope I get accepted here. Did you see how professor Nolan looked at me? He's so young and he's a professor already. He's quite good-looking as well"

"He's polite as well" The girls gossiped and Alina scoffed.

"Polite my ass. He's nothing close to being polite" Alina uttered almost in a whisper and her fingers went up to her face where the mask was.

Let's not get dispirited. If I fail the interview then it had nothing to do with my face. I'm fine. Alina comforted herself as tears crowded her eyes.

Some girls walked into the washroom.

"With a face like that, she might be probably dreaming to think she will be accepted here"

"She has absolutely no idea what Margolis hospital stands for. There's no way, they will stoop that low to accept someone like her. Does she think wearing a mask will cover what she looks like. She's only making it obvious that's she's ugly as fuck" The girls gossiped and tears roll down Alina's eyes.

Alina came out of the toilet and she walked up to the washing sink, the girls looked at her in shock.

She washed her hands and dried it up. She walked up to the door and then turned around.

"At least a mask can coverup my ugliness but how can you cover up your rotten attitudes? You can't use a mask on that" Alina said sarcastically then walked away.

The girls opened their mouths in disbelief.

"Who the hell is she to say that to us" The girls groaned angrily.

"We're still at the hospital, we can't create a scene here" One of the girls said with a frown.

Alina went up to the locker she kept her bag and she brought out the mango juice from her bag.

She went to a corner at the hospital then sat down.

"I've always dreamt of working here but it seems like, it's an impossible dream for me to work here. No one finds me welcoming here" Alina sighed as she sipped on her juice.

A little boy ran into her and the juice spilled on her clothes.

"Oh no!" She exclaimed.

Alina looked down at the little boy and he was limping.

This cast wasn't placed well, how's he supposed to recover quickly he has this on like this and adjusting his bones is way more better. Alina said in her head and bent over.

"Little boy, why are you out here and where's your nurse? You can't be running around like this" Alina said as she gently placed her hand at the back of his legs.

"I'm only out to get some fresh air. My nurse won't let me come out. I can't even have ice cream" The little boy complained and in a blink of an eye, Alina adjusted his bones back.

The little boy winced for some seconds.

"How do you feel now?" Alina asked with a smile.

The little boy looked at his leg and a smile appeared on his lips.

"It doesn't hurt that much anymore" He said smiling widely.

"That's good. Let's go get you an ice cream" Alina said and his nurse ran over.

"Sorry for the inconvenience I will take him back inside with me" His nurse said and held his hand.

Alina watched them leave and the little boy wasn't limping anymore and a smile appeared on her face.

Doctor Nolan watched her from upstairs.

What's her deal exactly? He questioned in his head with a frown.
