Chapter 19: Complacent Remorse

Alastair sleeps an absolutely luxurious four hours before he springs back into reality like he’s being hunted. Vampires do not have dreams. To say they sleep is even a stretch since it’s more like a state of dormancy.

There is no breathing or heartbeat involved. Vampires have always had the ability to do this and, in fact, most of his ancestors went dormant in coffins during the day. Perhaps with their bodies being able to tolerate the sun now, vampires just found sleeping a chore and did it less and less.

Alastair would have to admit that he felt that way for a while. However, crawling into bed with a clingy human heater seemed to make him consider the idea of laying dormant and beautiful luxury. Most of the time.
