Chapter 37: Ever Closer We Creep

The following days leave Alastair distracted by a sort of domestic bliss he was entirely unprepared for. Lea stops by several times to check on them and Hyacinth, who has claimed the entirety of the place as his home.

Alastair has never had to share a bathroom before. He was expecting Oliver’s comforting mess of toiletries to take over, but it hadn’t occurred to him that the cat would demand to keep them both company when either of them needed to use the facilities.

On one of Lea’s visits, she brings some equipment for Oliver to brew things and she notes that Hyacinth has taken a liking to Alastair.

“Normally cats seek out warmth, but well, since he’s not exactly living…” she notes, allowing Alastair to infer why the cat seemed to enjoy crawling inside his clothing.

“I think the reanimating process made him achy among other things,” Oliver notes with a hint of jealousy as Hyacinth snuggles into Alastair’s neck.
