Chapter 39: Last Chance

“Maya has been gone for hours already,” Jamison stated. He stood near the window to the outside of the room and peaked through the curtains.

“Give her time, if she doesn’t turn up soon, we’ll go after her,” Kade said from behind him. As always, his voice was calm and even. “Our resources are limited now. I’m certain she had to first learn where he has been hiding.”

“And you’re not worried something might have happened?” Jamison countered. He turned from the curtains to look at Kade.

“Of course I am, but I have to trust those that work for me to do their jobs too. Don’t I?” Kade replied. He sighed quietly and then stood from where he sat on the bed.
