Chapter 22: Present Tense

*Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t!*

Those words repeated in Willow’s head. She was an idiot, like always, and now she was going to get Lilith killed.

*D*mnit all!* Willow cursed. *Why didn’t I think this through?! Of course this a**hole would be prepared!*

Sh*t, what was the right thing to do?!

“Look,” Willow began. “I don’t know what your deal is, but at least explain to me why you know what Li—she is, and why you broke into my clinic.”

“Those are answers I don’t have to give,” the masked man stated, and Willow could sense he was frowning.

Willow took a deep breath. “O-kay, then at least explain why you want me here.”

At that, the man paused, and lowered his gun. “That’s fair. Sit.”

He gestured to a nearby crate, one near the operating table. Willow gave him a shaky nod, and she eyed the rose placed upon the coffin.

“Uh…” She risked a point. “Why…why is there a rose on the coffin?”
