Chapter 23: No More

An idea came to mind, and Willow leaned forward.

“So, just to be clear, you want to…expose the Underground to the mundane world at large, right?”

At that, Moorehouse raised a brow. “Mundane?”

“Ah, sorry.” Willow forced a smile. “That’s just what these…” She paused for a moment, as she was trying to think of the best way to describe them. “Creatures,” she settled. “Call our world.”

“Ah, strange,” Moorehouse frowned. “That implies they view themselves as fantastical. A fair bit of self-awareness, it must be noted.”

“Even so,” Willow shrugged. “I have to say, you’ve gone to a lot of trouble when you could’ve just asked.”

Moorehouse’s frown grew. “I’m sorry?”

“Do you know how I know this vampire? This sub-human filth?”

*Filth* was the right word, but it left her mouth, it made Willow want to gag. It was vile, like she was spitting out garbage with each lie she told. But the lie had to remain if this were to work.
