Chapter 24: For Love

Willow found her heart froze, and her brain grinded to a halt.

“W-what?” she stammered. “I…the Oath!”

“You said it yourself,” Moorehouse replied. “She’s not human, none of them are. What’s more, we swore to never harm another living being. Do you really think that this creature, of whom there are books, movies, shows, an entire culture dedicated to, is human? How old even is this one? 100 plus at the very least? And the Headless Horseman you mentioned, how could you possibly call that living?”

“I…” Willow swallowed. “Sorry, you’re right. It’s just…strange, to complain about them, finally, then I find myself asked to commit the act of silencing one.”

Moorehouse nodded, though it didn’t reach his eyes. The gun rested far away from him, though a cross poked out of his pocket. Willow swallowed and took a step toward him. However, he held up a hand, and placed the stake on the ground before kicking it Willow’s way. She blinked, and Moorehouse took up the gun once more.
