Lucia watched him walk away and panicked. She didn't want to be left alone in this place. She quickly opened the door and shut it behind her. She ran after him, trying to catch up.
Callum heard her footsteps and smiled. He felt her body moving closer to him. "Don't forget to lock the door if you don't want your car stolen."
Lucia realized that she had forgotten to lock the car. She turned around and pressed the lock button on the key. She heard a beep and saw the lights flash.
Lucia shivered as the cold wind blew on her face.
"Look at you, looking all scared," Callum said, grinning. "What would you have done without me here, huh?"
Lucia rolled her eyes and pulled away from him.
"Don't you think we look more scary still wearing our masks?" Callum said. "What if we get run over by a car being mistaken for a ghost?"
"Don't be ridiculous, no one is that stupid," Lucia said, looking around for any sign of a car. They were walking on a deserted road, trying to find a car.
"Why are people so invested in that party anyway? That you have to pay a heft sum just to get in" Lucia confused. "It's not like they are going to be millionaires tomorrow morning. Don't they have jobs?"
Callum only smirked, "If you had stayed back, you would have seen the beauty of the party."
Lucia was surprised. She wondered what he meant by the beauty of the party. "Seriously, do they give out free money?"
Callum kept quiet and did not say anything. He had a mysterious smile on his face.
Lucia pushed him, "Come on, tell me. What's so special about that party?" She was curious now. She thought maybe she had missed something important. She thought maybe she should go back to the mansion and see for herself.
"Kiss me first, then I will spill more," Callum said, winking.
Lucia recoiled and said, "Don't be weird."
"How is that being weird?" Callum said. "It's called trade by barter. You asked for information, and I asked for something in return. Is that not a fair trade? It's not like I asked for money."
Lucia found it exhausting talking to him. She decided to ignore him and keep walking. She hoped he would shut up soon.
Callum saw that she was not speaking, "It seems like you're overwhelmed by my presence. That's understandable. I have that effect on women."
Lucia snorted, "Yeah, right. You have the effect of making them run away from you."
Callum pretended to be hurt, "Ouch, that's harsh."
He moved closer to her and whispered in her ear, "But you can't run away from me now. We're stuck together."
Lucia felt his breath on her neck and shivered. She pushed him away, "Get away from me, you weird man" She walked faster, hoping to get away from him.
Callum laughed and followed her. He enjoyed teasing her. She looked cute when she was angry.' He thought
Lucia felt relieved as she finally reached the main road. She saw the street lights shining brightly, welcoming her back to civilization. She smiled and walked ahead, leaving Callum behind.
Callum shook his head and followed her. "You're heartless, you know that? You're just walking away without looking back. Aren't you worried something would happen to me?"
Lucia stopped and turned around. She gave him a sarcastic look. "Did I drag you along to come with me? And besides, if you had stayed back, maybe you would have been having a nice time with a beauty in your arms."
Callum caught up with her and stood in front of her. He looked into her eye, "But I am still doing that now. And besides, this is more fun. I'd rather be here than at that lame party."
Lucia felt her cheeks flush and her heart skip a beat. She cleared her throat and tried to hide her embarrassment.
"Hurry up, let's get going, I don't have time for this. I have a job interview to prepare for."
Callum raised his eyebrows, "Oh, really? What kind of job?"
Lucia didn't want to tell him anything about herself. She didn't want him to know anything about her life. "None of your business."
Callum smiled, "Well, good luck then."
