The Road Of The Undead (Short chapter)

Me and Hayden had been driving for a while now, we needed to find a gas station as we were running low on fuel. As we were about to completely run out. We found a gas station, we drove up and parked the car. I went inside to see if I could find any snacks or drinks while Hayden went to go pump out gas to fill the jerry can, and grab some more cans just in case. I found some stuff for us to eat, nothing that good, as it is a gas station, just some snacks, like candy, or slim jims. Hayden pumped some fuel into the car and then we sat inside the gas station and ate the snacks I found. When we were finished we got into the car and we drove off.

About thirty minutes later we came across a horde of zombies, when I say horde I mean there were around twenty of them. That's the most we have seen grouped together, we tried to drive past but all the sudden more zombies just kept coming from under cars, or from behind them. We quickly got surrounded by zombies. It got to the point we couldn't even drive through them. I was scared, and so was Hayden. He tried to drive but there were way too many zombies surrounding us, then an explosion went off in the distance and the zombies perked up and started shuffling away from us. We immediately took the chance and drove as fast as we could. It was starting to turn night so we parked at a store along the road and searched for actual food. We got a bunch of energy bars and drinks, but sadly no real food. We slept in the car because we felt safe there. The next day me and Hayden woke up and we looked outside, we saw a few zombies out in the distance, Hayden started the car and we started on the road again.

We were about two hours away from Oklahoma at this point. Which was where we were going because we needed to find our friends and Hayden's family. As we were driving we saw survivors, we stopped and asked if they were okay, they said yes, but that they need food badly, although Hayden didn't want to give up our supplies, I felt bad for them, so I gave them some of our food and after the group thanking us, they gave us two water bottles. I think it was a fair trade. We got back into the car and got back into our journey, we were now thirty minutes away. We were then thinking what might've happened to our friends, and if they were still alive. But we stopped thinking about that because we needed to be positive of the situation we were in.

Then we saw the sign saying welcome to Oklahoma, after a few minutes we stopped by Hayden's house to see if his family was there and still alive. But when he walked in he saw his family dead, ripped to shreds with bite marks everywhere on their bodies, however, Hayden heard soft crying coming from a closet in his dad's room. When he opened it, he saw his little brother, Landon, who was five. Hayden and Landon started crying, both glad that at least they had their brother. Landon was clearly hungry, so Hayden brought him outside and told me what had happened, and about his family. I felt bad for him, but at least he still had someone, unlike me, it's not fair, why couldn't one of my family members be alive, why, why, WHY. I shouldn't be thinking about this right now, my heart ached. But we had other matters to think about. Shortly after we gave Landon some food and water we drove off to find our friends.
