“Your exam is tomorrow, right?”, my dad asked.
“Yes. I’m supposed to arrive at my center by 7am”, I replied.
“No problem, I’ll take you there”.
It was the first time I was about to write UTME. UTME was an entrance examination into Nigerian varsities. In my time, UTME (JAMB, as many call it) was one of the most feared exams. This exam came with lots of rumors. I heard stories of how many wrote it four to five times and still didn’t get the course they wanted. Some read so much but forgot everything they read the moment they stepped into the exam hall. These stories alone were enough to make you take A-level exams but that was even worse. So what was the way? Why not write it?
