Chapter 273: Turn 11

"Tch....'Course t'eh bloody Captain gets a one up on me..." Calico would scoff, yet despite such malicious words, he'd still feel proud over his decision, most likely assuming that Teach wouldn't have as much to offer the longer the game went, making the risky choice in having himself serve as the extra life to carry such a torch. Anne would take up her die and prepare to roll it, though as she does, she'd look towards Calico, still smiling despite such a loss.

"What did you expect? He's our Captain. He's not one to abandon his folks." She'd tease.

"Yeh, yeh, I s'pose t'is be t'ah case..." A Light chuckle came out from Calico, watching as her die rolled across the golden ground. "'Though...Yous be regrettin' 'at, won't ye? Af'er all, yous be mo' attach'd towards t'eh old man more t'an a'yone else.." He'd ask, prompting her expression to change a bit, losing such a smile and instead looking somber.

"Aye...But I'm pretty sure he's told you that answer before, hasn't he? Sacrifices... tends to be made if one wishes to achieve such a victory for 'emselves, yeah? No fear for the inevitable and all 'at! You yourself should've known this already." She'd state, keeping track of her paces.

Calico merely sighed to himself when he heard her reasoning. "Aye....Didn' 'Spect 'im t'ah follow along wi'h his own advice, tho'."

"That's why I didn't want you to abandon your family, mate. We would've made sure you have everythin', but you left it all for splendor and wealth." She'd quickly land on a new space, being given a new spell and aimed it straight towards Fibonacci. "I seriously don't understan' why you wish to take that offer. What good is all this wealth without having a chance to spend it all?"

Calico softly chuckled as he'd have Fibonacci prepared. "Anne....Do yous remember our first pillagin' togetha'? Wi'h t'eh king that buil' a palace of ice? Yous rememberin' wha' he said when we's be askin' why he wanted t'ah be in t'eh cold all alone?" His remark would have the two pause such a game, with the First Mate closing her eyes and recollecting such memories: The first time she decided to sail the seven seas, meeting with Calico, and being told of a treasure regarding a small kingdom of ice and snow. A Kingdom made from a man that held the power to create blizzards and snow, forever chilling anyone that dared enter his makeshift den. She could recall the man being frail, needing a cane to walk, his scraggly beard drooping down towards the ice, his body making use of ice-like appendages to keep him up. She could recall the monsters he hurled towards the two, having both of them be forced to be at each others throats due to the blizzard plaguing their vision. She can recall her own question when asked as to why he would be playing a cruel fate on himself, before hearing Calico speak up once more. "T'is because he be a crook. A beast. A person t'at needs no sympathy. Why bother w'ih correctin' 'emselves... when it be better to stay away, nev'r harmin' 'nother soul again, nev'r seein' t'eh worl' again since ye knew ye be a burden if ye's keep tryin'? 'Em words opened me eyes a bit. Even if I's be sailin' 'er water's again...it doesn' make it unforgivable. I truly miss 'em, Anne, I truly do. Her waves still speak t'ah me....But I's don' have t'eh heart to try and make amends wi'h somethin' t'at will always be tryin' to kill me. I's don' have t'eh heart to prove 'er wrong...when she be right."

Anne would sigh as she'd hear his reasoning, casting her spell in the form of the thorn-like vines, letting them rise from the ground and skewer the beast alive, letting the vines wrap around Fibonacci and drag it back down, removing the last set of health in the process. "You're afraid, huh? I see... and to be honest... I don't blame you. You don' strike as a person who's tryin' to kill everythin' in yah sight, after all. You're just a player, and it's why I loved you before." She'd began, seeing the others roll their die and preparing to fight back.

Solomon would be quick on casting Gashapon, summoning forth his secondary monster, his body beginning to wear down due to how much energy he spent. The capsule came down just in time for the Biblical Sorcerer to open up, revealing another plushie-like monster, one with red velvet fabric to act as its skin, a pitchfork and a knife on its hands, a cartoonish grin and bulbous eyes on its face: Faust. Faust would follow along with the likes of Saber, being nearby one another, whilst Enma approached at a rapid rate, striking down the Pirate with the first layer, Lust. Strong winds which would begin to cut into his bone-like skin, blood quickly dribbling down as he suffered such effects, a quarter of his health already gone. Harvard and Zazel would try to approach as much as they could, with Harvard's maximum spells not allowing him to take a new one, whilst Zazel would be given a new beast to his name, one that he recognized by name, but never has seen it been summoned before.

"However..." she'd continue. "...I can't really bring myself to love you again...if you're going to keep hiding away like this. I can even see it in your playstyle. You're letting the runt's monsters do the dirty work, while you simply focused in either hit and runs or trappin' folks in your game. This is so different than what I imagined..." Her disappointment almost hinged out of her mouth when speaking such words, almost being offended by his actions. Calico merely stared down at the ground, not being able to find a rebuttal. "Tell me... Do you seriously plan to play lame, or do yous wanna try and actually fight back. I know you more than anyone else. This is not your style."

Calico merely stood there in silence as he rolled his die, her words wafting in his mind, being reminded of the times he acted passive, all the way back when he was small.

"...I'm sorry, Anne. If I's be playin' as such a coward, then a coward I's shall be. Besides...Ye folks have me outnumb'r'd. I's believe that you can at least look beyon' such plays, eh?" He'd respond, much to the disappointment of the First Mate, and yet, in spite of such, she acknowledges his reasoning.

"Fair 'nough, I suppose. It did be a one versus six, after all. I 'pologize for-"

"No....yous don' need t'ah. Yous just been more used t'ah pullin' t'ah trigger than anyone else. Yous don' need to 'pologize for anythin'. It's why I's loved ye, after all."
