A Mad Conqueror - Part 3

"Boss!" Northy shouted. "There's no wind here!"

The men were still behind him, ready with their shields. Northy's comment struck Vol. He looked up at the branches of the trees. He was right – there was no wind. Though, it was unlikely that was the kind of wind that Northy was referring to.

What exactly did he mean? Vol didn't have a clue, but he had sense enough to guess that for there to be no wind meant there was an abnormality of some sort.

"Screw it," Vol said. "Fall back, you lot. We'll butcher Nolan's men while we have the chance."

The screams of their men doing battle with Nolan's rang out through the forest. It was hard to tell who was winning, but Vol thought for certain that his lot wasn't yet losing. Their advantage in surprise and in motivation seemed to be winning him a good amount of ground.

"After you, Boss!" Harland said. "We'll cover you from any arrows, until we find you a shield."
