Chapter 7 – Earl Maddon

"Dead?" Earl Maddon said. The support did not come entirely as a surprise, but that didn't stop a shiver from running down his spine. He'd suspected something was up with this youth that they'd boxed in – that was why he'd taken the careful precautions that he had. But he hadn't expected for circumstances to be this bad. For them to take down the likes of Ironbane, Grange and Ergon. That was a miscalculation.

"Dead, I do believe, Ser," replied the messenger. "The intel seems to be reliable. As far as Grange and Ergon, I have confirmed their departure with my own two eyes."

"Monsters, was it..?" Earl Maddon muttered.

"Monsters and men," the man replied. "And… well, I suppose a woman."

"They've men that strong. Second Boundary men…" Earl Maddon said. "You didn't predict this, Jesper," he said accusingly.
