Now he stood with both weapons. Spear, and javelin, with the javelin a good deal thinner than the spear.

"My remark on its intelligence earlier seems to have been put to waste," Earl Maddon said. "A javelin, in this sort of battle? Would that have been your choice, Dwire, if you could choose all the weapons in the world?"

"No, my Earl. I would have preferred a spear. But it is mere assumption on our parts that the creature could summon whatever we wished. As with all things, there are rules. I doubt it would summon up such a useless weapon on purpose," Dwire said.
