"Watch me, oh King," Earl Hellan said. "You have missed me with your favour for the longest time. Miss me no longer. Look upon my achievements with the same eyes that the Gods look upon me, and see the victory that I am capable of bringing!"
In his mind, he could already imagine himself at the feast. He could see Earl Maddon and Earl Brighteyes bowing their heads to him as they gave him the coin that they had promised, and as they attempted to hide their looks of mirth, when their plan had gone awry and his expected failure had not been carried out.
"Continue forward!" Vol shouted to his men. "Open that path. I will deal with this fool, and all that he brings."
