Nobility - Part 6

"IF YOU COME ANY CLOSER, WE WILL TAKE YOU FOR ENEMIES!" The same man shouted, and still the Sea Serpents marched. Their shields grew closer together, but their footsteps did not slow for even an instant. Against the likes of arrow fire, they'd long since found the courage to set aside their concerns.

Then the first arrow came. A little pattering tester of a shot. It must have come from a bowstring that wasn't dragged all the way taught, for it fell more by the pulling of gravity than by the speed that a well-shot arrow should have. It landed straight into the centre of Harland's shield, not even managing to disrupt Harland's walking for a half-step.

The Sea Serpents kept their coming, and with that arrow, the hesitation that the guardsmen seemed to have was quickly enough cleared up.
