"That'll be six hundred men," Harland said. "And we can assume the enemy has that number. That, and the ladders… You're really pulling out all the stops for this battle. You're certainly determined not to lose again… Is a victory here that important? Important enough that you would sacrifice our battle readiness for future battles after this one?"
"It is," Vol said. "As I said yesterday, we'll have three days of rest after this. We can afford to go all out. We'll crush that old bastard Count Torn completely now. He had his little traps, and he failed to kill us. Now he'll pay for that."
Harland felt his heart thud just the slightest bit louder. "You know, it's strange. After all that, I find myself excited."
Vol grinned at him, his teeth showing, as fierce as a bear. "As am I, Harland," he said. "They're going to pay with buckets of blood."
