Looming Threats - Part 5

Vol saw the familiar magic circle begin to grow around the frame of wood, the Pagan priests, and all the tortured men that they had possessed. It wasn't long until all those present began to feel its pull. The possessed men seemed to feel it first, and their frantic mad movements grew even more frantic and angry.

One Pagan tried to leave in a hurry, only to be dragged back in, as if by the hand of a God, right back into the heart of the circle. Now Harland and Penelope were looking Vol's way, seeming to understand what they were seeing, given that they had seen it so many times before. He turned to meet their gazes, daring them to say something. But Harland quickly relented with a shrug, seeming to accept the same conclusion that Vol had drawn. Under these circumstances, there was no way to lay the blame for what was to come at his door. It was quite clearly – as far as all those present were concerned – the work of the Pagans.
