Chapter 16: Don't Like Me, There's No Future_1

Could Charles White be carrying on a secret affair with another woman behind Elyssa's back?

Upon considering this possibility, Bella Scott got out of the car and headed straight for Charles' sedan. When she saw the man and woman embracing sweetly inside, she froze in her tracks.

It was Charles who first spotted Bella, and he let go of Elyssa, who was in his arms.

Elyssa still seemed to be intoxicated from their passionate kiss, and it was clear that she was a woman immersed in love.

Yet somehow, this very woman had secretly sent someone to investigate Charles' background.

Would Charles still feel the same way about Elyssa if he found out?

Charles got out of the car and approached Bella.

Bella pointed at his lips, "You've got Elyssa's lipstick on." She couldn't understand, was kissing really that fun?

A hint of amusement flashed in Charles' eyes, and he moved his face close to Bella's, "I can't see it."

Bella immediately pushed his face away, answering in a muffled voice, "Elyssa is staring at you right now, and you still dare to flirt with me?"

What kind of person was he?

She did like Charles, that was true. There was even a time when she wanted to snatch him away from Elyssa, and she thought about drugging him to consummate their relationship.

But ever since she was embroiled in the scandal involving homosexuality and her marriage registration with Edward Anderson, she knew her fate with Charles ended there.

Even if her marriage to Edward was merely a facade, she knew she had to remain faithful to it.

Charles lightly patted Bella's head, smiling, "If you were a little more feminine, I might actually fall for you."

Bella let out a long sigh, "So that's it. I'll never be feminine in this lifetime, and you'll never fall for me in this lifetime. What do you call that, destined but not fated?"

The woman Charles was destined to be with was Elyssa, and he liked women like her—small and delicate.

There was nothing feminine about Bella; she had a loud voice, acted crudely, and enjoyed fighting. Just like everyone said, she wasn't a man or a woman, so she was destined to be without love.

Elyssa got out of the car too, and upon seeing Bella and Charles chatting happily, her brows furrowed slightly.

She walked over and hooked her arm around Charles', greeting Bella with a smile, "Sis, what are you doing in this neighborhood?"

Was she trying to catch Charles at something?

Everyone knew Bella's wedding to Mr. Brown was arranged, and that she was soon to marry that lecherous old man. On top of that, many knew of Bella's feelings for Charles. It was only natural for Elyssa to be alarmed when Bella suddenly appeared in Charles' residential area tonight.

"A friend just happens to live here. I'm leaving now. Elyssa, don't call me sis; I have nothing to do with you." Bella couldn't help but make a face in front of Elyssa.

The delicate woman that Charles liked was Elyssa, and Edward Anderson, whom she loathed, also preferred gentle and soft-spoken women like Elyssa.

Elyssa's mother had stolen her father when she was very young. How could Bella ever pretend nothing happened and call Elyssa her sister?

"Your friend isn't Charles by any chance, is it?" Elyssa suddenly asked.

Upon hearing this, Charles fixed his gaze on Bella's face, "Bella, don't fall in love with me, it won't end well. You know that the one I like is Elyssa."

Elyssa was gentle and kind, and the moment he first saw her, he was smitten.

Though Bella's personality also appealed to Charles, she could only ever be a friend.
