CHAPTER 25🔥🌊

I was still contemplating on which team to join, and then looked over to Sage's team, she and I locked eyes for a second.

She gave me a cold stare before looking away, I turned to Cara and she smiled at me.

I smiled back.

Finally I looked over to Madeline's team and immediately made my decision.

"I think I'd like to join Madeline's team." I said to the instructor and he nodded.

"Good choice." He said and motioned for me to go stand with them.

I made a small run to where they were standing.

"Hi." I said to Madeline.

"Hey you." She replied and smiled.

I turned sideways to see Damon already smirking at me.

I raised an eyebrow at him and he did same.

It was getting weird with the staring contest so I had to look away shyly.

I looked up again and peeped at Jake and saw him giving me a glare.

I frowned. "What did I do to him now?" I asked myself in my mind.

I was about saying something to him but he just turned away from me in an instant.

"Okay everyone! It is time for the training to kickstart. And remember, you have got to have each other's backs. A visual reality of these monsters will be activated using Artificial intelligence, it'll look real, but it isn't. But still, you have to give it your best. Alright?!" The Instructor said loudly and everyone murmured in agreement.

"Okay then. Each team will be directed to their own wings, and there they'll fight their own monsters."

The Instructor gave out different wings section to each team. My team got West Wing A.

"Great. We got the dark slimy Wing. This day just keeps getting better." Damon said with a hint of sarcasm.

"How bad is west wing A?" I whispered to Madeline.

"Grossly bad. You do not want to be down there." She whispered back.

"It's not all bad, you just have to be careful not to touch anything while we're down there." Phoebe suddenly said.

I was shocked how she was able to hear us.

I was so sure that nobody could hear us.

"Wait, how did you hear what we were talking about?" I asked her.

She just smiled. "It's a secret." She said to me and Madeline.

"Oh." I replied.

The Instructor finally set the stopwatch..

"Okay, everyone! Once I click on this stopwatch, your time automatically starts. So ready yourselves! On the count of 3....2...1.... Your time has officially started." The instructor said and everyone scattered, each team headed towards their wing.

"Come on." Madeline said to me and I nodded and followed right behind her.

Jake and Phoebe quickly followed suit.

Damon took his sweet time before deciding to join us.

When we got to the entrance of the West Wing A, we came to a halt.

The door looked so old and the walls were peeling off.

Jake made the first move and opened up the gigantic door with a little force using both his hands.

He kept one of his hands on the door, waiting for us girls to pass first.

He gave me a look when I passed by and I avoided his gaze.

Once it was Damon left at the entrance, Jake left the door and joined us.

Damon just scoffed and made his way in.

"So what exactly are we doing next?" Madeline asked out loud.

"We explore." Jake said.

"I vote we stay right here and wait." Damon said.

"Wait for what exactly? Don't tell me you're scared." Jake said to him.

"Hm...no I'm not doing this with you." Damon replied him.

"Why not? Isn't that what you're good at, getting into fights." Jake said to him.

"What the hell is your problem right now huh? Do you really want to do this here?" Damon said to Jake, stalking closer to him.

"I don't mind, as long as I get to kick your ass." Jake said to him.

"Okay you guys aren't helping matters here... Could you maybe drop your silly feud for a second and let's join forces and get this over with." Madeline stepped in.

"I wonder if you'd still say that if Cara was here with us." Jake said coldly to her.

"Yeah well she isn't... But you two are. So get it together and let's get this done with."

"Yes Mom." Damon replied to Madeline.

"Whatever.." Jake said and made his way further inside the wing.

"Should we follow him or...." I said awkwardly.

"Let's just go." Madeline said and followed Jake.

I looked at Damon and he gave me a small smile.

"Come on." Phoebe said and dragged me by my hands.

"So... this is not fun." I said to Phoebe.

"Yeah I know. Anything that involves Jake and Damon together, isn't much fun." She replied.

"I don't get why they hate each other so much. They both seem so nice, individually." I said to her.

"Yeah..well they're not." Phoebe said.

"Guys!!!!!! You need to hurry over here right now!" I heard Madeline's voice echo.

"Shit! Come on!" Phoebe suddenly started running towards the direction of Madeline's voice. I followed closely.

Phoebe ran so fast, I ended up losing track of her. I guess her speed had something to do with her having air magic. There's no way someone could run so fast.

Oh no...I lost her... And I can't hear anyone's footsteps anymore.

"Shit. No no no no no. Oh no. What do I do now? Okay. Just relax. We heard Madeline's voice from that direction, so I just have to keep going towards that side... wait was it over this side?" I was at crossroads. There were three different pathways, they were all dark and scary and I was standing right in the middle, confused as ever.

"Come on, get it together. Just follow your instincts Cassie...." I said to myself reassuringly.

"Guys!!!! Phoebe! Madeline! Damon! Anyone!!!" I yelled out, hoping someone could hear me.

"I think I'm lost guys!!! Anyone close!!!" I continued but I didn't get any response.

"Okay... this is a nightmare. I don't think anyone can hear me." I found myself sitting right at the middle of the crossroads.

I have no idea on which path to take. I guess I'll just sit here till they realize I'm missing and then come back for me.

This whole thing was a mistake. I should have chosen Sage's team. Honestly right now, Sage seemed more reliable than any of the people on this team.

How could Madeline of all people leave me all alone, she's the one I trust the most out of everyone in this whole school.

I sat there quietly, with all the silly thoughts running through my head until I heard a faint sound coming from one of the dark paths.

I quickly got to my feet....."Madeline! Phoebe is that you?" I said a little bit loudly but didn't get a reply.

I stood very still, waiting or atleast expecting something or someone to come out of the dark path into view.

I even had to hold my breath in other to listen clearly as everywhere suddenly became quieter than before...the sound I heard before seemed to be fading.

Was the person retreating? Or did he or she stop on it's track.

I stood there motionless, still listening, the silence was becoming deadening but I still kept quiet. Suddenly I heard it.... A faint growling that sounded inhuman.

Oh no. This is no person.

I didn't wait to hear or see more, I suddenly picked a race. I wasn't paying attention to the path I took. I just know it was opposite of where the growling sound was coming from.

I ran without looking back, just forward till I suddenly bumped into something or someone.

"Oh my god!!!" I shrieked in fear.

"Whoa calm down.... What's chasing you?." I heard Damon said.

"Damon? Oh thank God. I thought i lost you guys, I've been waiting for you guys, where did you guys go to and without me?!" I said to him.

"You didn't answer my question. What. Is. Chasing. You?" Damon said but his tone was different. Colder and deeper.

I suddenly got chills.

"Um..I don't know, I'm not sure. I just ran." I said slowly backing away from him.

"You just ran. Pathetic. Yet you call yourself the fifth element. You don't deserve to have that power, none of you do. Which is why I'm going to help you. By taking it away." Damon's voice suddenly changed to an unrecognizable deep voice.

This isn't Damon.

My eyes widened as his form started changing to that of a monster.

Oh no.

I continued my race.

I continued running till I stopped hearing the growling that came from the monster.

"Where the hell is everyone?" I thought to myself.

I heard footsteps approaching so I quickly hid behind a rock that was laying around.

It was Jake.

Or not.

I let out a shaky breath and suddenly Jake conjured a ball of fire.

Oh no, he must have heard me.

"Who ever you are, you better come out right now or I won't be blamed for what happens next." I heard him say.

I quietly came out from hiding.

"Jake?" I said calmly.

He turned to look at me wearily.

"Cassie?"

"Yeah? Is it really you?" I asked him still not sure.

"Yeah. Is it really you too?" He asked me still holding the ball of fire.

"Yes. Ofcourse it's me." I said and gave him a small smile.

"Prove it." He said still unsure about me.

"Ok um....we met at my house back at home and you made me a flower out of fire, which I thought was really cool by the way." I said nervously.

His fire ball suddenly disappeared.

"It is you. Where the hell is everyone? One minute I was with Madeline and the next minute, it wasn't her." He said clearly as confused as I was.

"Yeah, tell me about it. I've been running for hours now. From Damon."

"I don't blame you. I would run from him too." He said to me obviously amused.

"You know what I mean." I said and rolled my eyes at him.

"Okay, now we're together, we have to find the rest of the team and kill atleast one of those monsters and get back to the field before we loose time."

"Yeah. Definitely." I said.

"Okay. Are you ready?" Jake asked me.

"Yeah. Yeah I am. Are you?"

"Let's go." He said to me and I went to stand closer to him.

There was no way I was going to lose him again.
