{Chapter 1}

I looked outside the window of the moving car. I could never get over this town that was once full of life is now full of ruins and nothingness.

I was trying to distract myself with the buildings outside, so I wouldn't have to deal with this awkwardness inside the car.

I started to fidget and tap my feet on the ground. I was getting impatient, and my nerves weren't calming down.

*Ahem*

I looked around to see if I got anyone's attention, but they wanted nothing to do with me right now.

I looked outside again and started to whistle while tapping my hands on my thighs.

"So...how y'all doing?", I look at my friends again.

"Not now, Al.", Ace said. His green eyes looked annoyed at me through the rearview mirror. His hands gripped the steering wheel a little tighter.

"Don't get so oily, Ace, just trying to swipe the awkwardness away.", I said with a half-ass grin.

He didn't even bother with me anymore. In the end, I achieved nothing but silence again.

"Wow, you guys are so rowdy.", my sarcastic comment seemed to hit a nerve in Amelia.

"Al, shut. Up.", she turned her blue eyes to glare at me. A scowl was on her face.

"How road of you, Amelia. Did I turn your gears?", I sent a teasing smile to her.

The vein on her forehead looked like it was about to burst.

"You, are so annoying!", Amelia faced her body to me.

"We are in a serious situation right now, and all you can do is annoy us with your stupid jokes. Can you be serious for once in your goddamn life?! Your stupidity is probably what got us into this mess.", Amelia's eyes were piercing.

"Okay guys, let's calm down.", Layla turned her head to the back seat. Her eyes held a concerned look, not wanting a fight to break out.

I turned to my window again. I knew I was being a little shit, but what else could I do in this situation? Being negative will bring nothing but pain.

Amelia rolled her eyes at Layla and turned her head to her window.

After what seemed like forever, we finally made it to a small grocery store that seemed like it hadn't been raided yet.

We got out of the car and started gathering anything that was necessary. After making a couple of rounds back and forth to the car and the small grocery store, we started to pack things up.

However, as soon as we started to pack up the last items, we heard gunshots.

The 4 of us ran outside the building to check out the situation. A car drove next to ours and started shooting one of our tires and all of our windows. The noise started to attract the zombies around the area.

"Oh shit…looks like we're in a sticky situation.", I pulled out a stick out of nowhere, smiling at my little pun.

"Oh my…", Ace looked like he was done with me for the last time.

The car drove off, the driver flipping us off, as we heard laughter drift off with the car.

"Those bastards!", Layla yelled, stunned with the rest of the team.

However, this was not the time to be standing around. We had to get out of here fast before more zombies started to come.

I yeeted their asses inside and took apart the wooden shelves to board the doors and windows.

"Hurry up and get to your senses already! Help me!"

Ace helped me break the wooden shelves, and the other two helped barricade. After doing that, we started to move everything in the grocery store to block the front door.

Suddenly, the door was blasted open; everything that was in front of it was also blasted away. Things were flying everywhere as all of us took cover.

"Oh slam~", I put my right hand on my mouth in surprise.

"Fuck! We have to start running, now!", Ace called out.

As we started to make our way through the back door, I looked back to catch a glance at a red-haired zombie with glowing purple eyes. It seemed like he was the one to crash through the door.

Are zombies evolving?
