Chapter 13: Chapter Thirteen

*Jonathan’s POV*

“So, you said the police think it is my family. What do you think?”

Brielle’s question hangs in the air like the electricity lingering in the air between us just moments ago. Did she feel it too? Did she feel same static that used to be one of the most alluring factors about her – about us?

I feel a nervous pang in my chest as I realize I was staring at her for a little too long and feel an excitement just being near her. Just for a moment, it felt like old times when we were together. Amazing what you forget when you are apart from someone, like how smart she is and how her attention to detail is insane.

I know there is nothing there, and the moment seems to pass between us as she averts her eyes and then asks me about whether I think her family is responsible. I know there is nothing there. How can there be? She has made it quite clear how she feels about me every chance she gets.
