My dad is coming here. My cheeks feel flustered and I don't know if I am mad at Tori's dad or myself. I shouldn't have waited this long to tell him I was pregnant. He even called me a few times, and yet I stayed silent. Why?
I feel a gentle squeeze on my arm. "It's okay. We can get through it."
We all turn our heads to a knock on the door. I panic. He said tonight, I'm not ready. My anxiety is short lived as a young woman with blonde hair peeks her head through.
"Congratulations Mom and Dad. I just have some paperwork to drop off, fill it out at your convenience." She hands the documents to Tae and then walks out, he promptly passes it to me. It's two identical birth certificate application documents.
"Oh my god." Tae looks at me, and Tori's Dad says he is going to go find baby number 2. I look up to Tae. "We haven't even named them yet." His face doesn't seem concerned.
"Two healthy baby girls were my top priority, we can think of names now."
"It's not that simple Tae, they need to be meaningful and important to us. Do you have any ideas?"
He shakes his head. Of course he won't say, he is enough of a gentleman to let me choose the names. I can't say if that's a nice thing to do or a cruel thing.
"Should they be Korean? Or English?" I watch his eyes roll up a little as if he is in deep thought. I'm glad he is taking the time to think it over. This is such an important part of our lives, and our children's lives.
"How about both? A name that doesn't sound too Korean but can also be spelled using the Korean alphabet?" He lands on a question. It's a great idea but I'm dubious about the execution.
"Any examples?" He looks at me and a simple smile forms across his lips. He sits up from the chair next to my bed and presses a sweet kiss to my lips. "Like Rina. When I heard your name, I knew you were the one for me."
"That's just a nickname though. It wasn't planned." I pull out my Papago dictionary and start typing. I need two names.
He grabs my hand, "I'll help you brainstorm. Did you pick the nursery designs?"
I think about the lavish nurseries we have at home. "I didn't but they have a lot of deep meaning to me. Plus my only family designed them"
"Okay that's good let's start with the ocean." He pauses for a moment and starts listing names, "Bada, Sora, Suah." I cut him off, "I like Sora. What does it mean?"
"It is a type of shell. Do you like it?" I look at him. "Do you like it?"
"I already love my girls, their names will only make them lovelier." I know he is talking about our children but I am starting to feel jealous. My brain has been on autopilot in the background thinking of names and one comes to mind.
"I've always liked the name Luna. Do you like that name?" He nods his head. "I think we are done here, we have a Luna and a Sora." The baby happily sleeping next to me begins to cry and she doesn't hold anything back. We both smile at each other knowing what the other is thinking.
I pick up our sweet girl, and Tae sweetly coos at her. We practically say in unison. "Our baby Sora."
