Rockets Red Glare

Driving through the highway, Fox was on the wheel while Snake was assembling the rifle,

"Even in death, this bastard got what he wanted." Snake said,

"He won't, we will stop them." reassured Fox, Fox then tapped on the side of the radio which triggered a mechanism that slid the radio in to then release a police scanner.

"A police scanner?" asked Snake,

"Yeah, useful for emergencies-" he was suddenly interrupted as a bullet broke Fox's mirror. Snake turned around and saw three armored vehicles pursuing them.

"Shit! Step on it!" Snake yelled as he put the magazine in the rifle, Fox slammed his foot on the gas and the car sped forward through the highway. The armored cars continued opening fire at the two operatives, Snake lowered the window then shot at the armored cars but his bullets didn't pierce the armored layer. While being shot at, Fox was swerving the car to avoid the rapid fire from the armored cars.

"Do you have anything that packs a punch?!" asked Snake,

"If you want to risk getting shot to pieces to search for it, just shoot the tires off or the drivers!" Fox shouted back, Snake pulled the window down and took aim at the cars, he shot a tire out, causing the armored car to swerve off the highway. Another car continued shooting, trying to pressure the men to make a fatal mistake. That's when Fox spotted an oil tanker a couple of miles away from them, with little time left, Fox grabbed a C4 stick and handed it to Snake,

"Snake, on my mark. Once we pass through the tanker, wait for them to get close so we can cut them off." ordered Fox, Snake nodded and began arming the explosive. They were about to pass the oil tanker and Snake quickly threw the C4 out the car, attaching it to the tanker. Snake held onto the detonator and glanced back as they were distancing themselves from the armed cars. Once the armed cars were approaching the tanker, Snake slammed his thumb down on the button and blew the tanker to pieces, making the armed cars blow up as well.

"Yes!" exclaimed Fox with a grin, Snake turned with a smile and a sigh of relief. They were passing the underpass about to approach the Whitney Young Bridge but suddenly Snake spotted something coming towards them. It was a group of Apache Helicopters with their aim locked at Snake and Fox, Snake quickly looked around their environment and spotted two motorbikes under the helicopters. Gray Fox also spotted then turned to Snake,

"Thinking what I'm thinking?" asked Snake,

"Yep. You'll know when to get ready." Fox replied with a proud smile. Fox put his sword behind him, grabbed a Scorpion submachine gun then began increasing the speed of the car. Both men lowered themselves to prevent getting hit, the Apache Helicopters began firing their machine guns at the car. Gray Fox then madly turned the steering wheel to make his car swerve then flipped upward towards the closest helicopter. Fox and Snake then leapt out the car, heading towards two other helicopters. Fox landed onto the cockpit glass then stabbed through it to pierce the pilot's throat while Snake caught himself on the landing skid of the other helicopter and shot the pilot of the helicopter beside the one he was hanging onto. Fox then leapt onto the helicopter Snake was on and stabbed the pilot as Snake flipped off the landing skid, the last two helicopters fired missiles at the operative. Fox jumped onto one of the missiles and Snake landed on the other, they maneuvered themselves then directed the missiles towards the helicopters and finally jumped off, landing onto the bridge. Quickly, Snake and Fox got onto the bikes and that's when they both heard something on the stolen radio,

"This is Alpha Squadron, we just finished in the Senate Building, all targets down. We're about to approach the White House." said one of the terrorists.

"Double time it, Snake!" shouted Fox as he got on his bike, Snake got on his and both men began speeding towards Capitol Hill. Downtown Washington DC became a war zone, casualties spread around the streets, armies fighting each other with tanks and aircraft and soldiers shooting at terrorists. Snake and Fox were speeding through Independence Avenue in a hurry, ignoring the fighting and swerving through the bullets and destroyed cars,

"Snake, turn!" shouted Fox as he began to turn on Massachusetts Avenue. Two tanks were blocking their way, about to fire their giant artillery rounds but Fox and Snake slid on their bikes to go under right before they could be hit. Fox held his blade up to cut the tank in half while Snake placed a C4 then detonated it once they got far from it and continued driving. The two men cut through Lincoln Park then entered East Capitol Street,

"Almost there, let's hope they don't get there before we do." said Snake,

"We won't be late!" Fox reassured him. Snake nodded and smiled, trusting Fox's word. As they were approaching the Capitol Building, they saw the war zone get progressively worse. More bodies of soldiers, terrorists and civilians, buildings on fire or blown up and sirens blaring through the city. The once lively capital of the free world is now hell on Earth, it all horrified Snake because out of his combat experience, he never saw something like this. They passed the Supreme Court and Library of Congress and on the horizon saw the large battalion of terrorists with their tanks, their guns and their choppers. Snake was speechless at such a sight, he spotted that some were waving banners of that dreaded emblem that haunts his nightmares, the emblem of the Outer Heaven army.

"Snake?!" called out Fox, Solid Snake looked over at Gray Fox,

"Follow my lead, this is going to be a bumpy ride!" Fox said, Snake nodded and held his rifle in hand. Fox revved his bike up and began riding towards a pile of wrecked vehicles, he leaned backwards and began to lift the bike, Snake shortly began to do the same. Building enough speed and burning enough gas, they rode up the wreckage and leapt over the Capitol Building, landing on the opposite side and heading in the direction of the Washington Monument. The terrorists noticed them and began opening fire right at them, the bullets and artillery nearly hitting them. Snake and Fox revved their engines, trying to pick up more speed to get away from the terrorists, they had little time left and Fox made a quick turn in between the National Museum of American History and the African American History Museum. In the distance they saw an APC heading towards the gates of the White House, they both knew the Alpha Squadron were in that APC and had to act now before it was too late.
