Chapter 14 (water)

"Five hundred push-ups five hundred sit-ups, fifteen-kilometre run and five hundred squats. This will be your daily exercise routine." My subconscious informs me. He placed his hands behind his back and a weird smile crept to his lips. "This will increase every day and the punishment for skipping your training is that you will do double of it."

My face becomes comical and I stare at it with utter disbelief. I was very active in sports but I have never done five hundred push-ups in a day--I had never done this type of dreadful exercise routine before.

"Your time is going. Tic tok." It smiles wickedly when it sees that I am still standing in one place doing nothing.

I begin the pushups. When I have done up to two hundred my hands begin to hurt me and they become wobbly. My subconscious walks to me and whispers.

"If you give up now you will do fifty extra."

I grit my teeth and continue without giving up. When. I am done I fall to the ground breathing heavily. I am sweating profusely and my arms are shaky.

Can I survive this?

"That's just for the pushups you have three more workouts to go." It says with a smile and I try to punch it but my hands go through it.

"I told you that you can't hit me," it says and I frown.

I stand up from the cold snowy ground, tired and begin my fifteen kilometres run.

When I am finally done with all the workouts, I lean on a tree, breathing heavily as if I ran a marathon race, my heart pounding against my chest and cold vapour coming out from my mouth.

"Now time to move over to your next part of training," My subconscious announces and I glare at it.

What the heck did he mean by the next part of my training?

I am very tired, my legs are shaky, my hands are wobbly and my body hurts.

"You see, you don't have to only exercise your body but also your mind. I am going to teach you how to maintain your focus for a very long time." It points at me and facepalms itself. "You know that your power is all about your focus.

It is right, my power main focus is my concentration, if I am distracted a little bit then it will undo. If my power's main focus is that why can't I just work on that without doing all these strenuous workouts?

I place my hand on my chin.

I guess I still have to be built and know martial arts, to use my power is very tiring and it uses a lot of XO so I will not be depending on it all this time.

"A human's brain can only focus on two things at a time, consciously..."

"How many things do I need to focus on, before I become a master of this very power?" I ask it not waiting for it to finish its statement. I want to know so that I will surpass the figures it will give me. I am certain that it won't reach up to a hundred.

"A thousand," it intones and my jaws drop to the ground.

A-a thousand?

"How is this possible? This is impossible!" I raise my voice a little. How will I be able to concentrate on a thousand things at the same time? It is like using both of your hands to play a thousand jigsaw puzzles. That was impossible.

"My young master could concentrate on more than a thousand things and he was one of the strongest in Zyron."

That means Kovex must have been really strong to concentrate on so many things at the time and for him to be one of the strongest in Zyron. He must have truly mastered these powers.

I stare at my palms.

I inherited his powers, I could be as strong as him...

My lips begin parting and I feel both excitement and curiosity overwhelm me.

"What do I need to do to reach that feat or even surpass it?"

Or I could even be stronger than him.

"That's the spirit," it says with a grin.

I sit on the ground and take in a deep breath. Then I stare at my subconscious waiting for it to tell me what to do next.

"I want you to turn all the snow in this area into water for twenty seconds," It runs its fingers through its hair with a weird smile plastered on its face. "You will do this while I distract you."

I chuckle, this is going to be so easy.

It brings its hands closer and it does a symbol with them.

"Illusionary art; fearful sounds." It says and its voice echoes throughout the whole place.

I begin hearing loud uncanny noises, I look around but I can not pinpoint where the noise is coming from.

"Illusionary art," it explains, "a skill that can make the opponent see or hear things and make anything appear to be real."

This was what my subconscious used to make me see all those visions, it can make things sound and appear real...I wonder if I can do that too.

The noises are loud and quite frightening. It affects the human mind and body, as my body begins to tremble even if I am not scared.

I take in a deep breath.

Focus.

Jayden, focus.

I close my eyes so that it won't distract me.

I try to imagine the whole snow in this place turning into the water but it is very difficult for me with the strange unexplainable noises.

I begin to feel water underneath me and I open my eyes immediately.

"Did I do it?" I ask excitedly and my subconscious facepalms itself in disappointment.

"You just created a puddle of water that's all and it vanished immediately." It says through its teeth and I roll my eyes.

It isn't easy to even concentrate for a second with this stupid noise, how does this thing expect me to then turn the white snow to water?

I close my eyes again and try to focus but it isn't working, my concentration is worse than the last. I can't even keep my eyes closed properly because of the disturbing noise and it seems like it gets louder and more annoying as the time passes by.

Shit.

"I give up," I let out breathing heavily. "What you ask me to do is impossible."

"You turned the weight of a stone to be like that of a boulder, is that possible?" It spreads its hands into the air and raises its head to the sky like a maniac, "if you do things that are impossible then why will I not give you something to do that is not possible?" It brings down it hands from the air and stares at me with a wicked smile on its face. "And who says that this is going to be easy?"
