As they were talking, the servant brought the painting. The portrait was in a large red brocade box. Inside the box was a scroll wrapped in a silk cloth bag, which she handed over to Joy.
Joy carefully removed the cloth bag, eager to see what Reed Grandma looked like seventy years ago and to get a glimpse into the past.
Upon unfurling the scroll, she saw a chubby little girl in a traditional Chinese dress, with a bun hairstyle decorated with two bright red ribbons. The girl was smiling sweetly, revealing two small canines, and holding a string of candied hawthorns in her hand.
"This is too adorable! It makes me want to have a daughter right away," Joy exclaimed.
Her exclamation came from the heart. Reed's Grandma was too adorable as a child, like a cherubic girl from a rich family. And it was obvious that she was loved and spoiled, as she could smile so happily in such a grand house.
