I Have Survived Death

Austin walked out of Alora's room. He currently felt nothing, only a painful stab in his chest. Calum and Julius walked towards him but he just passed them.

"What just happened?" Calum asked Julius.

"I don't know but with an expression like that... I hope she's fine." Julius concluded and rushed to Austin's side. "Is she alright? She's isn't dead, is she?"

Austin continued walking to the car and got in. Once the others had entered the car, he drove them to a hotel and booked a flight back to California. The two had already assumed the worst.

Without saying anything, they boarded the plane and took off.

"Will you tell us what is going on?" Jul demanded. "Don't tell me that the cops got to us. It's good that we are using fake passports." He lowers his voice.

"No, that's not it." He stares out the plane window.

"Alora didn't survive it, did she?" Calum said.

"She did but, she broke up with me." His grip on the arm rest softened and he exhaled. "It felt good to say it."

"Why?" Julius picked a cup of jelly from the air hostess's tray. "Want some? It's strawberry."

"She loved strawberries." He said unconsciously. "She loved The Glass House, she loved my nephew and she loved me." He closed his eyes. "I promised to protect her and I let that happen."

"Let me guess." Calum suggested. "She didn't want to get anyone hurt by your relationship so, she cut it off, thinking she could protect the ones she loved." Calum broke his cookie in half. "That includes you, isn't that right?"

"Yes."

He wanted to cry. No one understood him more than her. She had no objection to his job and she was the only person he ever allowed to get so deep into his life.

The feeling was more painful than death itself. He just left her, in a hospital bed. And it was his fault, not hers. She only wanted to keep him safe, something he couldn't even do.

He didn't even know what to do at this point. She had given him a reason to live, besides DIY mafia jobs. She taught him love, even though it was a null feeling.

'I have survived death.' He thought. 'I hope I survive this.'
